Please, can anyone tell me if this is acceptable accreditation? Question: Is Canyon College accredited? Answer: Yes, Canyon College is accredited with the following accrediting agencies: Central States Consortium of Colleges and Schools, (CSCCS) The National Board of Education (NBOE) The American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board (ANMAB)* * For the purpose of the Doctor of Naturopathy, N.D. program only http://www.canyoncollege.edu/ Thanks
Danie, stay utterly away from this one. Everything about it is non-anything except the money it gets from people. None of the "accrediting" organizations listed is valid in the eyes of the US government, and that naturopathic organization has no standing among legitimate naturopaths. Although people promoting degree mills--and a few legitimate posters, too--have been very critical of the following list, please check the list of unaccredited schools at the website of the State of Oregon Office of Degree Authorization. www.osac.state.or.us/oda/ Also, use the search function on this site to check for old threads on Canyon "College". You will find plenty of useful information there.
Odd, isn't it? Danie has gotten some good advice regarding schools and yet he seems mired in the muck of mills!
FIrst Danie let start by saying if they are listed as a school in Idaho and are not permitted to allow Idaho Residents you can be fairly sure they are a mill. What I find amazing id the faculty lists it makes wonder if the people who are listed know they are listed there. Also if they do what does that say about them. I notice some are listed (in their Vitae)as adjunct professors and instructors at real colleges! I was tempted to try and contact one or at least one of the schools but I am afraid of what I might find out.
Odd, isn't it? Jimmy I am just not familiar with the diffirent accrediting agencies. So, I rather ask than be sorry........again.
Um, "legitimate naturopaths" - is that an oxymoron? (Okay, I know I risk the wrath of Chip for that question, but I couldn't resist.) But seriously, I always like inquiries about Canyon College. It's a chance to reprint an oldie-but-goodie, a letter I wrote to the president of Canyon on behalf of a former degreeinfo.com participant who had gotten trapped into a so-called faculty contract with them a few years ago. Because it reveals much about Canyon itself, here is yet another reprint of this lighthearted classic. As always, I have deleted the victim's name to spare him further embarrassment. (By the way, it worked - the victim was immediately released from any contractural obligation to Canyon.)
WOW !!!!!!!! Boy, I read the letter and almost fall of the chair.. I hope the lady who is hassled by a contract with KW-U can get some help from Steve. Name it and fame it
None of those are valid accreditors. For a list of recognized accrediting agencies for U.S. colleges and universities, all you need do is go here: http://www.chea.org/Institutions/search.cfm Look at the list in the spin box labeled "Search by Organization". As you'll see, Canyon College is not accredited by any on that list. Kit
more information Look here for information about what else is at the same address as the CSCCS "accreditor."
Re: Odd, isn't it? To find out whether an accrediting agency is legit, check them out with: 1. USDOE (United States Department of Education) http://www.ed.gov OR 2. CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) http://www.chea.org/Directories/index.cfm
