Does DETC have any authority?

My cousin was enrolled at a DETC school for a short time but withdrew because the school had problems when they moved from California to Utah. She wants to complain but isn't sure if or how DETC will intervene.

Does anyone have any experience with DETC? How can they support sub-par schools?

With all due respect to your cousin, her complaint may have no relevance to accreditation (you haven't stated the complaint so there's no way to tell). Even the best of schools (or companies for that matter) receive complaints from time to time. It doesn't necessarily mean they're sub-par. On the other hand, if the complaint is related to an area that directly concerns accreditation by DETC they may show some interest.

Misty - Your cousin can contact the DETC, but she should also make sure she contacts the school and shares her complaint in writing and over the phone. The school (CCHS) as I recall did have a few problems when they first relocated, but I haven't heard of any serious issues since then.

    Best,
