    Hi,

I need to take a College Algebra course for my COSC requirements. I am terrible at math (I'm getting a headache and my hands are starting to tremble just writing this) but obviously I need to get over this and just get it done.

Any suggestions for a basic course that COSC would accept? I've looked into the DANTES exam as well; can anyone tell me about it's difficulty level?

    Thanks.

I am also math-challenged and need to get it out of the way. I don't think trying to test out is the way to go here, since testing is meant to measure prior knowledge.

My plan is to actually take a DL math course, so I can get the credit and the guidance if I get stuck on any problems, which is a certainty. You local community college may offer an internet-based program. Louisiana State has a number of inexpensive courses.

I'm math-challenged as well and I would highly recommend the College Algebra course offered through Colorado Community Colleges Online www.ccconline.org

The entire course is online, no proctored exams! Grades in the class are based on 7 unit exams and a comprehensive final -- the instructor drops your lowest unit exam grade as a bonus! There are also options to earn extra credit in every unit.

The beauty of the course is that all exams are open book and you may take each exam twice and the highest score is the one that counts. Often when taking the test for the second time I would end up with 12-15 of the EXACT same questions (you can print out the test with correct answers after the first attempt). The remaining questions will be highly similar -- same type of problem or formula but the variables may be changed.

I was extremely happy to find this alternative -- I earned an "A" in both this course and a statistics course I needed for my degree.

Good luck, CCCO is RA so COSC should take the credits without question.

I like the LSU courses because they are cheap and give you 9 months to complete a course. That way if you are stuck on something it gives you enough time to find a tutor or someone to help.
