    DETC claims

I didn't think Australia had a first-professional degree level. (most things (except possbily a Graduate Diploma of Education)

Actually by the looks of it, they were accredited over a month ago (January 8th?) As well as the University of New England and Monash, and I can't remember Deakin being accredited (although they might well have been)

It appears that some mass accrediting has been slipped in through the back door and nobody noticed. Good thing they are already accredited!

I am sure one of these Australian schools offer professional doctorates, for instance the DBA... I know USQ has one, and CSU is beginning to offer a DBL (which is different from the DBL at UNISA, in that CSU's DBL is course and prject based I think). I am curious why DETC does not capitalize on this. They could model a pilot program after professional doctorates at these schools. I can imagine DETC use this as a condition for granting accreditation, but I don't know if this has actually happened...

This has been discussed before but in short the DBA at USQ is much closer to the american PhD than a first professional degree. Most of the Australian PhDs are not open to MBA graduates and require an M.Phil as an entry requirement. The DBA was developed as an alternative to further education for MBA graduates. Australian PhDs do not require coursework while DBAs require course work and a dissertation. The main difference is that the DBA dissertation can be applied research while the PhD dissertation would need to be original research; however, it is hard the differenciate between dissertations as some DBA dissertation are more theoretical while some PhD dissertations are more applied. So in short, a DBA is the natural transition for a MBA graduate and the PhD for the M.Phil or M.Sc graduate. As an MBA graduate, I was required to complete a M.Phil at USQ in case I wanted to pursue their PhD while I was given admission to their DBA with my MBA.
