Interesting...I notice every time a new credit is put into the degree audit, the courses shift around in some odd ways. I was told by an advisor that the credit system is controlled by a computer software that is written to make the student look good on a transcript. There is nothing that I can find in the catalog regarding this software.

For example: the degree audit may say that you need one more Humanities and one more Social Science Elective... Lets say to take the Social Science course and find out you don't need the Humanities elective anymore because the courses shifted again.

I'm pretty much finished (unless TESC changes the degree requirements before graduation which I doubt will happen). Nevertheless I'm still curious about how this system works(esp. since understanding it may help future TESC students on here make the right course decisions!!!). I looked over all my degree audits which I printed hard copies of and saved. Here is my only vague observation:

*I SUSPECT that the software takes the numbering of the courses into consideration over the grade. In other words I think it may favor an upper level credit with a C grade over a lower level course with an A grade. (even if one has enough upper level courses for the major)

I'm have no idea how variables such as where the credits were earned, chronological order of credits earned...I already took degree requirements and what the course may count as into consideration when comparing the degree audits.

I was told that GPA and Concentration would NOT be shown on the transcript. The funny thing is since I have more than enough upper level credits than necessary than can be used in my concentration- my concentration GPA will therefore depend on what the computer decides to put in but it won't be computed on my transcript.

When they say the software is carefully written to make the sudent look good- Is that to mean look good to employers or to graduate schools? Are employers likely to demand a concentration GPA and try to calculate it themselves? Are employers more likely to care about what your GPA was? How many upper level credits you earned? or How many credits were earned at a 4 year college?

ALSO I'm curious, do any other colleges- esp B&M use this computer system? None of the other colleges I went to seemed to use it.

Another thought, do any of the other 2 of the big 3 have this (rather mysterious) software system or anything similar?

CAVEAT: This is not a rant against the school's academic policies. I have read their catalog inside and out and feel they have some great programs which is partly why I chose the school. I'm just trying to have a better understanding of how their system works and like I stated above- This might help newer students.
