Not distance ed, but with a number of posts about theological education, I wanted to share this email I received this morning:

In a bold move designed to provide access to students wanting to prepare for ministry, Saint Louis Christian College (SLCC) will begin offering full-tuition scholarships for residential, full-time students.

The goal is to encourage more to enter the ministry to fill current and anticipated future needs of the church. SLCC has been equipping men and women for ministry in church-related vocations since 1956.

Effective July 1, students who take at least 12 hours per semester and live in campus housing will receive a full-tuition scholarship.

They will pay $2,500 each semester for room and board (double occupancy in the dorms) plus $450 for a student services fee (parking, technology, etc.). Full-time commuters will receive a half-tuition scholarship and pay only $125 per credit hour plus the $450 student services fee each semester.

"We are excited to offer an affordable opportunity to those who want to prepare for ministry. This decision was based on the high cost of a college education coupled with the fact that most of our students enter into ministry upon graduation," explained Jamie Lankford, Director of Finance.

"The salaries for ministry positions are comparatively low, and we don't want our graduates struggling to pay off student loans at the time they are striving to succeed in their ministries."

As part of the college's academic programs to prepare students for a lifetime of ministry, the field education program will be expanded. Students will serve on campus, in churches, or in community service each week and gain practical, real-life experience.

The service in area churches will be a vital learning link between the classroom and their ultimate goal of serving in full-time ministry. Upon graduation, students will have a
wide variety of guided ministry experiences and be well equipped for service in the church.

The college has an active adult evening schedule with the Adults In Ministry program. Two adult programs are offered: a bachelor's degree-completion program for students with previous college credits and an associate's program.

Students enrolled in one of these programs may also qualify for a full-tuition or half-tuition scholarship depending on their campus residential status.

Saint Louis Christian College, located in Florissant, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis, is an accredited institution of higher learning offering two- and four-year degrees. Students qualify for Title IV federal financial aid.

SLCC is affiliated with the independent Christian churches/churches of Christ. Students can earn bachelor's degrees in five ministry areas (Preaching Ministry, Worship and Music Ministry, Educational Ministries,
Intercultural and Urban Missions, and Christian Ministry). All students major in the Bible.

Does the program award the equivalent of a B.A.? Is it RA or NA? My son is a high school student currently exploring careers and seems drawn to Christ.

Central Christian College of the Bible and The Moody Bible Institute also offer tuition free education for full-time resident students. Central is accredited nationally through the AHBE (formerly AABC) and Moody is accredited both nationally through the ABHE and regionally through the NCACS.
