    Hi,

I posted a while back explaining that I was trying to do a BSc in Marine Biology, and was hoping to do alot of the coursework via DL and then transfer as much as I could accumulate into a full time on campus program to finish the degree.

I've been speaking to a number of universities who have been quite receptive to the idea, and now I'm just searching to find equivalent lower level courses that I can take that will transfer into the program.

The general education and math subjects are no problem, I've found plenty of substitutes at alot of different institutions. But I'm struggling a bit with the science courses and was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

I'm trying to find equivalents for my first /second year Biology, Chemistry and Physics courses (without the lab component, this I will complete when I'm in full time study). I've found a couple of Biology 1xx courses at community colleges but I think these are more General Education units, and I need something a little above that to satisfy a Biology major requirements. I've found some higher level courses at Minnesota University but nothing inbetween.

Does anyone know of any universities offering these types of courses?

I'd really appreciate any advice, I've searched and searched and haven't turned anything up yet.

    Thanks a bunch

Thanks Angela, but I think those two are ones I've reviewed as only meeting General Education Requirements, I'm looking for the next step up, the courses you'd take after completing those courses, or your first courses in a Biology major.

Check out Mountain State University. You can do most of the courses you listed and the labs via independent study.

Thanks, guys, these two are very helpful! I actually did come across the UCLA one before, but I saw they required a sitting examination so I scrapped that one since I'll be studying from England. Although thinking about it now I probably could do a proctor exam or work something out. But you're right.. its a bit pricey. I'm sure they are great courses though.

Mountain State is looking very promising, I'm looking into it now.

Thanks very much to both of you for the help.

Darn. Everyone else beat me to the answers. ;) Mountain State U and Berkeley were my top choices in science classes considering the flexibility of their labs. One other option is Penn State U. http://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/pub/index.shtml I don't know if they still offer science courses, but they might and would be an alternative to the other schools.

While we're on this subject ...

Does anyone here know of an upper-level DL biology course which would meet Excelsior's requirements for courses with labs?

To quote: "Biology degree requirements include at least two laboratory courses, one of which must be upper-level."

I've searched here and elsewhere and tried to follow up on links embedded in a few old posts, but so far I haven't had much luck. Any help on this would be appreciated.

    Hey Scross,

Have you looked at Athabasca Open U in Canada? Quite a few with lab in Biology and other science subjects:

I don't think this one from U Minnesota is upper level but you mentioned that only one needed to be UL, it does have lab though:

I know I came across a bunch last week that were only upper level courses but I can't for the life of me remember where it was. I will keep looking and let you know if I find it. Anyway I hope these help for now.

Thanks, Lee-anne. I believe I've already checked out the sites you mentioned, but I will look at them again. Maybe I've overlooked something obvious.

As far as those upper-level courses go, if you can't remember where you found them then may I suggest you go back and check your browser's history log. I find this helps jog my memory sometimes.

    Thanks again for your help.

Aah, here you go. I've spent so much time looking for courses and programs lately my history list is a bit overwhelming... Anyway I found it, check this site out.

It's a very useful site, I hope you find what you're looking for.
