    Hello,
I am currently enrolled @ excelsior, and I need 18 upper level credits in arts & science as well as the written english and 4 lower level credits in natural sciences or math to graduate.
Is anybody aware of any easy upper level classes?
What is the fastest/easiest way to complete the WER written english requirement?
Excelsior no longers accepts the English Clep.
I am new to this and decided to enroll @ excelsior after reading this site & bain4weeks.com
    Thank you very much

  2. I am in the same boat as you are. I need 15 lower level credits, and 15 upper level credits.

The lower level credits will be filled with the Natural and Social Sciences CLEP exam, and the American Government CLEP exam....now...what to do about those upper level credits?

I have Instacert, so...I will likely take the DANTES Civil War and Reconstruction, the DANTES Management Information Systems, and the DANTES Drug and Alcohol Abuse.

I think the Dantes MIS and the Drug and Alcohol Abuse tests are pretty easy...but am not sure about the other Dantes tests.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

  3. For ECEs, I found HR and Organizational Behavior both to be quite straightforward (I wouldn't say "easy" because UL credit generally isn't trivial). Labor Relations was a bit harder but nothing that would require too much study for either. I received "A" grades on each.

Also, if you did well on CLEP Business Law (assuming you took it) then DANTES Business Law II is a logical exam to take. A lot of the material is the same, but BL II is more focused on commercial paper.

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Classes

    Hi,
If you needed to complete some classes try this link for Mountain state http://www.mountainstate.edu/ they offer classes for distances learners. There classes is pretty much work at your own pace so depend on if you work fast enough you'll finish your course in no time.

I am enrolled at Excelsior...I have 90 credits to go...and hopefully complete my degree by the spring so I can enroll in a graduate degree program by the fall.

As far as the WER requirement, I already had taken English Comp, and Advanced English Com in a classroom setting at an RA school...so I'm not sure what you would do there.

    Thanks

  7. I was wrong, I have 90 credits...and have 30 credits to go..yeah...90 credits by the Spring seems like a difficult task.

    Hi Mark,
What did you use to study for the ECE Organizational Behavior,
I have a membership with Instantcert and it does Include the Organizational behavior but it's for the Dantes Exam.
Do you think it's sufficient for the ECE?
What is tHE ECE "HR" I'm not familiar with this exam is it an upper level Exam?
    Thanks!

the easier upper level credit i ever get is the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficency exam (http://www.actfl.org/)

    i took cantonese and mandarin.

for each exam i was given the maximum of 6 upper and 6 lower credit. (total: 12 upper 12 lower).

each exam is only about usd150.

No written exam needed as it is an over the phone oral exam.

in my opinion it is cheaper and much easier than the newyork univ language exam.

note : the test registration website http://www.languagetesting.com seen to be down at the moment.

    Wow!
I Speak french, so I already took the Clep exam and scored 12 Lower credit!
I was thinking of taking the NYU composition worth 4 upper credit (HARD),but ACTFL this seems to be easier and cheaper so....
How was the test structured, role play etc...?
do you really need native fluency to score the 6 upper level credits?
    Thank you very much!:)

  12. I purchased recommended books on half.com, but also used Instantcert for Org Behavior (it is quite similar). You'll need books for HR / Labor Relations, but you shouldn't have to pay more than $10 for either of them.

All provide upper level credit, and there's no reason if you have some sort of business/management background that you couldn't take all three within the span of 3 weeks.

    Cheers,
    Mark

I just passed ECE Org Behavior. It wasn't hard or easy...somewhere in the middle. I studied a couple of hours a day for about a week and received an "A". Used one of my wife's old text books and used the Dantes guide.

I also took the Dantes Civil War exam...IT"S A BEAST. I got a 47! The minimum passing score. Studied for two month's straight, watched videos, read the Everything Civil War Book.

ECE exams are expensive and long (160) questions but you dont have to chew on your nails wondering whether you passed.

I only have two exams to go...ECE World POP and ECE Abnormal Psych.

    for the actfl exam
the exam work like a job interview that last 30min. they may ask your opinion about current issue that bother you etc.

    no role play is involved.

my cantonese was just average but i manage to get an advance middle level pass. so i suppose if you can tell a story in your testing langage with confident, the six upper credit is within reach.

How long does it take before you get the results?
Did you prepare for the exam??
    Thanks

i did not prepare much for the actfl exam . for the cantonese exam i occasional go tru a book called " teach yourself cantonese".

for mandarin, i use it at home so no problem.

i apply for the test 2 weeks in advance and the test result take about one month to reach excelsior.

    English comp test...

I believe this was your original question. You are best served by taking either the

ECE English Composition exam (3 essays, all essay)

    Or

AP English test (scheduled locally at a high school or contact the college board to set it up).

For obvious reasons, the ECE exam is a lot more convenient.

As for organizational behavior ECE version, the instantcert guide is PLENTY helpful for those exams. I took both (DSST and ECE versions and got "a's" on both. Took them both the same day at the Navy College. The ECE version is upper level, so go for it!

To be honest with you, I find your post a little disturbing. The object of distance learning is to allow working adults (or in some cases others) a chance to earn degrees. Not to find an easy route to an award.

If distance learning becomes an "easy" way to earn a degree distance learning is all over. We already experience a certain stigma, threads such as this, enforce that opinion.

When I first logged on to this forum, I was looking at master's programs. This is because I has previously had earned about 85 units traditionally, had discovered distance learning, and envisioned earning that BA in six months. Didn't happen. It's hard. Damn hard. Working, just being an adult, makes earning college credits difficult.

I have nothing but respect for the numerous members of this forum who have earned degrees by this method.

The reason I have respect is because it is hard. The day that there are easy methods to earn degrees they will become meaningless.

Re: Re: easy upper level credit

Nonsense. What is easy for one person, is harder for others. So that throws out about 90% of your argument right there.

Spend less time trying to change the opinions of others on the sidelines who are usually unfamiliar with the whole process of what it takes to complete such a program (DL) and spend more time focusing on your goals and where you want to be (degree completion, career development).

Once you develop this focus, you'll find very little time for "he say, she said" crap. Do what you know you need to do to get to where you need to be.
