    Hello,

If I apply to a MBA program and have previously completed a BBA degree, can I count on be granted an exemption from some courses in the MBA program?

    Thanks,

    Dennis

    Dennis:

Depends on the program. I assume you're talking about online. At UMass, your BBA will only get you out of one course that they call Foundations of Business. At Mississippi State and I believe Oklahoma State, your BBA will get you out of quite a few courses, and you'll only need about 30 cr hr to complete an MBA, which can be done in as little as 18 months. At other programs, it won't do you any good at all. Surely some other posters on this Forum will know about other programs.

  3. Hello Dennis,

I see you live in Germany. Are you in the military? Because most bases and posts have an excellent educational system in place for their people. I would suggest that you look into California Coast University http://calcoast.edu for your MBA. They recently received accreditation through DETC. They have been in existence for 31 years. Also their cost per graduate credit hour is $162, less than half the cost at traditional universities. I would suggest you write them at [email protected] and send them a copy of your transcripts along for a preliminary evaluation. Or call them at (800) 854-8768 if you have the opportunity. Have a Great Day!

    Sincerely,

    Dennis,

I don't know of any MBA program that considers a bachelors degree course as acceptable for MBA credit. However, a business undergraduate will get you out of some levelling or prerequisite classes and in some instances the school may not allow credits to count in these areas in they are older than xxx number of years which can vary from school to school.

Some schools, Auburn, for instance will allow CLEP credit for the prerequisites.

    Regards,

    Kevin

Fed's technically right, they won't allow you to get grad CREDIT, but nonetheless, there are DL MBA schools that will allow UG business classes such as finance, econ, management, etc. to waive coursework towards the MBA and decrease your requirements substantially. I guess he essentially said this when he mentioned the prereq courses, although at some B-schools, the prereqs are pretty much a part of the curriculum.

Also, with all due respect to the other poster (whose wrath I'll likely incur) who suggested the DETC school, I'd steer clear of non-AACSB programs--that's the gold standard for the MBA, and DETC or RA-only Credit hours will likely not be transferrable should you seek to switch to an AACSB program.

There are some inexpensive programs out there that are online/DL and fully AACSB-accredited. Just look at the US News online guide to grad online programs. They may not be every bit as cheap, but the Miss State degree, for example, is from a legit B&M university and can be had for around $10,000 all-inclusive so long as you have a BBA and qualify for the 30 cr hr program.
