Has anyone heard anything about Northcentral's candidacy for accreditation? The announcement was supposed to be iminent, with the school only waiting to receive the formal letter before releasing it. That was 3 weeks ago.

Rich - I may be off here, but I'm pretty certain that most of the RA bodies (including NCA and SACS) defer final decisions on their actions until the late summer when their governing bodies meet.

My institution, for example, was visited by NCA around the first of May. We've been told by the visiting committee that they recommend 10 year reaffirmation and approval of two new doctoral programs (sorry, but they are non DL). However, we've also been told that this finding isn't final until NCA meets in August. Hence, we can't advertise until final action is taken.

    Thanks - Andy

    Andy,

What are the two new doctoral programs, or are you allowed at this point to say?

Russell - At Lawrence Technological University (in Southfield, MI) we're proposing the offering of a Doctor of Management in IT and a Doctor of Engineering in Manufacturing Systems. Both are intentionally not labeled as "PhD", but rather are professionally oriented doctoral programs.

    Thanks - andy

But it was reported here that NCU had confirmed it verbally, but was waiting for the letter from NCA before formally announcing it, and that letter was expected before the beginning of June. That's why I asked.

This is correct, Rich. I spoke with an admissions counselor at NCU who stated that NCA had verbally confirmed candidacy status, and that an official letter would be forthcoming. I, too, am curious as to why the formal announcement has not been made. Perhaps snail mail is getting slower.
