A friend recently completed a Masters of Management degree and asked for help in finding a doctorate that could be completed without having to relocate. Expense, USA university. and the amount of time for completing the degree are a concern.

I found that some USA Universities offer a Doctor of Management (DM/D.Mgt.) degree. They have DL elements; little time on campus. Some can be completed in 3 yrs. Some have a project instead of dissertation; some have no dissertation. Some have competitive entrance. Some state that their DM may be used for teaching. Degree credits range from 40 to 60. For most USA programs, the DM is much less expensive than the PhD.

They include: U of Phoenix, U of Maryland (UMUC), Case Western Reserve U (Weatherhead S. of M. - Executive DM), Webster U, Colorado Technical U. Also, for consideration, the Dr. of Strategic Leadership (DSL) from Regent U.

Do you have advice with any of these programs?
Do you know of other programs for consideration?

    Thanks,
    Lee

You might also consider some of the fine programs offered by DL in Europe: Grenoble (Fr), Aston (UK), Manchester (UK), and EBS come to mind. They offer related doctorates in business, such as PhDs and DBAs. Some are fully AACSB-accredited.

When looking at UoP, Regent, and Colorado Tech U, the cost of the DM/DSL is about 40K. The PhD at TUI and NCU cost about 25K.

INMO of the ones you listed Case Western Reserve is the most prestigious (also the most expensive), followed by UMUC.

Also the difference between a DM, a DBA and a PhD in management is probably pretty slim, saying that he should also look at:

    Capella University
    Fielding Graduate University
    Northcentral University
    Touro University International
    Union Institute and Univeristy
    Walden University

    Thank You Lee Kay!

I apologize for not having any answers to your questions but would like to thank you for your information. I'm compiling a list of Universities that have Doctorates in Business (Dr.M., DBA, etc.) that do not require dissertations or projects.

You have been very helplful to me.

    Thank you!

Just a hunch - somewhere between zero and none.
