Is this organization a recognized accreditor?

Recognized by whom? I don't see them at CHEA.

They sound like an association of accrediting agencies, not an accreditor of schools. That's what appears on their website. But it is unclear whether the member organizations know that they're members, or why.

Without doing a thorough check myself, I'd bet that one or more of those accreditors are not recognized by CHEA/USDoE, and that's the purpose of this association--to pull those unrecognized accreditors in with the others to make them look good. Just a hunch.

Um, looking a little more thoroughly, I wonder if this isn't a legitimate organization of otherwise specialized accrediting agencies?

In 1994, Congress removed the authorization of the USDE to recognize specialized accreditation agencies unless specifically required to receive federal program support. NAIT, as well as many other specialized accreditation agencies, was therefore no longer recognized by USDE. NAIT is currently a member of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA)."

    Thats why I am interested
