I am currently preparing for the TECEP Ops Mgmt exam and I'm concerned that I'm not adequately prepared because I've never taken a TECEP.

I'm using the Barron's Business Review Operations Management book but I'm worried about all of the math formulas.

    1. Has anyone passed the exam by studying the Barron's book?

    2. Approximately how much math is included on the exam?

Your input and comments are appreciated.

I recently took this exam and found it very difficult. Maybe 7 or 8 actual math questions. There seemed to be a lot of questions with multiple answers that could be correct which added to my confusion.

"For example which answer fits BEST?" In reviewing the options, it was hard for me to distinguish the correct answer. If I had it to do over again, I would just take it via independent study as the cost of a TECEP ($350+) is comparable to independent study course.

I also read the Barrons Review book from cover to cover in preparation.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

  4. Tough exam, got a 67/100 (needed a 60). Not a lot of specific math questions, but you need to really know, in depth, quality control, EOQ, linear programming, constraints, etc.

My problem was that I skimmed a lot of material but didn't go into great depth, and that's why my score wasn't great.

    Cheers,

    I took it twice!

Mark made some good comments. I'll add to this:

I ended up with a 73 the second time I took it. The first time, I got a 55 and I used the Vest Pocket MBA. It was a good overview, but not adequate enough for the TECEP version.

The second time around, I actually bought Operations Mgmt by Stevenson, ISBN 0072991223. I spent about 3 days of my leave period before deployment combing through the entire textbook, bouncing the text against the content outline and sample questions. I also remembered some of the questions that were asked on the first test.

As a side note, I will say you would be surprised how much is actually covered in the recommended textbook(s). With the ECE and TECEP exams (and even DSST), it's almost a dead giveaway What's in the textbooks listed on the content outline will probably show up again on the test.

$800+ lesson: study right the first time around.

testaholic was also correct about this test and I left feedback on both tests (there's a section in the back at the end of the test booklet where you can write comments). Some of the questions the way they were worded were confusing. And the answer choices that were given were sometimes also equally confusing, as there really were several choices that all could have been correct and "best".

This goes back to my point I was making above: many of the answers you would NOT have known unless you read the recommended text.
