First off I want to thank all the contributors to this board. Because of you and the info at BAin4weeks I decided to return to school last year and am now 7 units away from completing my degree in Human Resource Management. The information from this board is invaluable.

Here is my question. I am extremely math challenged and need to complete the Statistics requirement as well as the Algebra requirement. I have already taken ECE statistics and Dantes statistics and failed them both. I will be traveling for a bit and was wondering if there were any independent study Algebra and/or Statistics courses that allow you to study the lessons at your own pace with proctorless exams that I can complete while on the road. I need to complete my degree by mid April and do not have the time to sign up for any 12 week courses. Price is not an issue. As long as they are accredited.

Thank you all in advance and keep the information flowing. You all are great.

I'm sure Athabasca University in Canada has a self-paced course. Also, here's an independent study course from the University of Georgia that looks like just the level of statistics you want:

They also have College Algebra. Louisiana State University is cheaper and has an independent study college algebra course but not a statistics course.

These courses require a proctored final exam at the end. I don't think you'll find any IS courses that don't require that... but at least you can set up the exam at whatever time and date is most convenient.

I think what is being asked here it not information on exams or study resources for them, but rather, any recommendations from people who have taken a DL Algebra and/or Statistics class that meets or comes close to the criteria the original poster has outlined. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken here.

Thanks a lot for the replies. I carefully checked through the links and found that the programs come close but still have some type of formal setting required for classroom attendance or proctored examination.

Nlangloi, you are exactly correct. I'm looking for a program that will allow me to complete assigments at a quick (self) pace as I travel abroad without any attendance restrictions whatsoever.

Thank you again to those that have responded. Your help and feedback is very much appreciated.

  8. I'd be surprised if there are any total proctor-free options, but here's a thought -

If you're on the road but near a CLEP testing center you can knock out Algebra. Call ahead and see if there's a free seat and you can show up, fill in a form, show ID and test away.

TESC offers a Statistics TECEP at http://www.tesc.edu/catalog/tecep.php?CourseCode=STA-201. Depending on how close you came with the other two you may be able to find a site somewhere that will proctor this for you. Unfortunately, TESC is pretty inflexible with how they administer exams - you have to order for a specific date (and have a pre-approved proctor). Unless, of course, your travels take you near Trenton, NJ...

    Cheers,
    Mark

try these guys out. they have courses that cover this that are cheap and fit your plan.

you have to call and ask for the number that sells individual courses. they have ACE reviewed courses that transfer to the Big 3.

    check it out.

I looked up Education Direct online and gave them a call regarding their distance courses. I asked for the number to the division that sells individual courses as you suggested. The first operator told me they offer complete programs only. I thought she may be misinformed and called back but got the same response from a different rep.

Is there a certain name or number that you were able to get that I could use to get through. Their website seems to indicate they have exactly what I would need for my last two courses. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

trust me, i went through the same thing.

sometimes customer service reps can be zombies.

ask for the business division, to speak to a manager over there.

then, ask for individual courses that are reviewed by ACE. make sure you get the reviewed ones only.

    the courses are $55.00 pch.

there is a list of courses reviewed by ACE, i'll try to post them.

pm me, i'll share the doc.
