Bear's Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning is seeking information on new schools and new programs for its 16th edition. While I have some idea of new programs (one need only look at the majors now available from APUS or the programs now available at University of West Alabama to get an idea), your help is greatly appreciated. The database needs to be updated with all new programs from, say, January 2002.

While I'm quite happy that you like your school, we're really only looking, at this point, for new programs and schools (and not specific recommendations for which are good programs).

And for the curious, the lead author for this edition will be Mariah Bear. I have been asked this past weekend to come on board as co-author. My part of this project will be collecting all of the minutiae on each and every one of these programs and writing them up.

And, yes, as in days of yore, the apostrophe has now been moved back to before the 's'. Feel free to respond here or through my e-mail at tom(at)tomnixon.net. Thanks for your help!

    Hey Tom,

Do you have an online database that has programs that you have already looked at? Reason being is that I just don't want to be giving you a list of programs that you already know about.

No, I don't, but since I just began compiling information this morning, my best guess is that you won't be hitting anything I've already seen. :)

Please feel free to fire away. Any and all suggestions welcome (as long as they're new - the database is quite good up to that point).

    Good afternoon!

The Doctor of Social Science program at the University of Leicester (see http://www.clms.le.ac.uk/courses/doctorate/ on the web) admitted its first students in 2003, so I believe it qualifies as a new distance learning course.

    Good luck with the book!

I'd be interested in reading about Durban Institute of Technology's programs that can be done at a distance, like its DTech programs.

I'd also like to see an update on the TSA/UNISA situation.

Empresarial got left out of BG 15, IIRC.

A MyFuture search has returned a number of external/or online programs . I admit that 2337 results is somewhat excessive and the database isn't perfect. I do not know how many of the courses are open to international students (not Australian/New Zealand), but most of them should be. I will track down a previous Bears' Guide and compare differences and post again with a summary.

One note though - it does not list any "Doctor of Philosophy" programs. The only doctorates listed are the professional doctorates which are "American style" with coursework and a more applied focus.

I have tracked down a copy of Bears' Guide 15th ed, and I realise what I have left above would be of little help. I didn't realise it was so recent and that it had so many Australian Universities listed. It is still a useful resource, but not for this purpose.
