Excelsior College - Degree Completion Question

    Hello,

It has been some time since I posted here. I am nearing the end of my BS degree in Philosophy with a public university here in Oregon. I have about a year to go, maybe a little less. The school requires that I take "Formal Logic" for my program - which I wish to avoid (I don't do well with math style courses). However, I have lower division credits in two "Critical Thinking" courses from a previous school and have discovered that Excelsior College will accept those credits as one of a few options within a category (which would include formal logic as an option) in lieu of taking the formal logic course itself.

Here's what I need to know (if anyone can answer it - preferably someone who has attended Excelsior): If I were to take all of my remaining courses at my present school (except the logic course) - and with the required courses of both schools (barring the above exception) being so very similar...does anyone know if I could just transfer all the completed work to Excelsior and get my diploma from them? It would seem that I could, and just pay the fees of entry and degree completion. They do not have a residency requirement, so as far as I can tell no course work would be required.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    - Shawn

I applied to Excelsior with my entire degree completed. (In fact, I chose Excelsior because I was only two courses shy of their requirements when I started looking at schools.) The only time anyone there noticed was when my advisor was going over my credits and congratulated me because I was ready to graduate.

  3. The only requirement remaining is the Information Literacy 1-credit course which you can take online in a day. Otherwise, if you have met all other requirements you can be processed for graduation.

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Hey Mark,

Thanks for the heads up. It looks like this school could very well meet my needs so I can get on with my life.
