    From the article:
    • Freightliner LLC today announced that Bob Pacillas has been named manager of the company’s Cleveland, N.C., Truck Manufacturing Plant.

      [...]

Pacillas is a 36-year Freightliner LLC veteran. Since March 2003, he has served as Manager of the company’s Gastonia, N.C., Parts Manufacturing Plant. Before that, he was Director of Production at the Cleveland plant from 1989 to 2003. His experience includes a variety of management positions in production and materials. He has also worked at the company’s Mount Holly, N.C., Truck Manufacturing Plant. Bob holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Kennedy-Western University.
Few around here are more anti-Kennedy-Western than I. That said, it would appear that Pacillas is probably experientially well-qualified for the job to which he was promoted, his KW"U" degree notwithstanding. That doesn't make the KW"U" degree right, mind you... but I'm just sayin'.

Yes, experience speaks volumes, however I found some irony in Freightliner being HQ'ed in Oregon. I know a corporation can do whatever it pleases, but the past conflict between Oregon and K-W is somewhat funny!

Ah... okay... well, I guess I missed that irony; but now that you've pointed it out, it is interesting, I guess.

But I wouldn't characterize anything about the conflict between Oregon and KW"U" as "somewhat funny."

    'Course, that's just me.

And, no, please... everyone... let this not be a launching pad for yet another protracted and ugly KW"U" discussion. There are plenty of other threads floating around here where that can be debated... and debated... and debated.... and... er... well... you get the point, I'm sure.

Freightliner, a division of DaimlerChrysler AG is where I once worked. The many questionable degrees of those in Management has been discussed on these forums quite a bit. The ranks of management are peppered with holders of degrees from SRU( a very popular one) Hamilton U, KWU, and a few that I suspect are from http://fakedegrees.com. When I applied for tuition reimbursement to pursue MBA at Heriot-Watt, it was denied. I was told "It's not a real school." Sorry I don't have any links handy.

I'm told he drove a forklift.

Assuming his experiences are listed in the paragraph in most-recent-to-oldest order, what's the problem with that? If true, then his forklift-driving days, according to the way they're listed in the paragraph, would have been early in his career there. Do you realize how many CEOs started-out in the mail room?

So who broke the Oregon law Frieghtliner or Pacillas? I mean no where did they identify the nature of the degree! :D :D :D

The job and person are located in North Carolina, so Oregon law has nothing to do with it.

Nor with the price of eggs in china!
Apparenty I must prostrate myself before this forum. What got into me for thinking within that gray area of when a degree mill ends and when one beings!
It must be around 10K+, that is of course, irregardless of what Oregon thinks:D !

Is there an actual point being made, here? I don't get it.

Actually, starting out on a forklift is a very good career track there. Most of the management came up through the Material Handling section, as it's a good way to know everything that goes on. Fork lift drivers get to see all aspects of the operation. Pacillas is probably very knowledgeable. The situation is that upper management (in Europe) has a policy of everyone that is a Supervisor or above MUST have a 4 year degree. Hence there are quite a few managers with SRU degrees. I was once sent an email from a manager chastising me for my "non-standerd" spelling. :D

    yes.

    from www.dictionary.com

    "ir·re·gard·less ( P ) Pronunciation Key (r-gärdls)
    adv. Nonstandard
    Regardless.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Probably blend of irrespective, and regardless.]
Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so."

    From my Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary:
"ir-ri-'gard-les\ adv (ca 1912):REGARDLESS Originated in early twentieth century dialectical American speech..."
The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however.

That doesn't change the fact that it should almost never actually be used. The word "regardless," without the "ir" before it, is nearly always sufficient if the sentence in which it is used is properly-constructed.

I reckon I nearly always never actually use irregardless.....

My mistake. I saw Portland Oregon at the beggining of the first line and assumed his new position was located here. Too bad. It would be interesting to see a test case before too long!
