    Hi everyone,

I've decided to go back to school to pursue marine biology, but unfortunately I'm not in a position to be able to take four years out to study full time at the moment. I was wondering whether its at all possible to do a combination of DL and on-campus study to complete a BSc degree.

What I hope to do, is take my core Science subjects via DL for the first two years, where I can work at the same time and save $, so that I can afford to take the next 2 years off to finish off the degree at a university full-time on-campus. I understand there's alot of lab and field work required in a marine bio degree, which I wouldn't expect to be able to do distance, but surely there is alot of the course that can be completed through DL?

Do you think this approach is feasible? How does the transfer of credits work? Looking at the course info for a few universities, it does seem like the first couple of years of the undergrad course is made up of the same core subjects so hopefully these should transfer fairly easily, that's what I'm hoping anyway!

Thanks very much, I'd really appreciate any advice you could give me.

Shouldn't be a problem. That's almost exactly what I did in pursuing a second bachelors in Spanish. They said they'd take up to 30 semester hours of correspondence courses. I was able to transfer that many. Almost all the core courses (in combo with the general ed courses from my first bachelors) are now finished and I can concentrate almost exclusively on Spanish. A whole year's worth of work behind me when I walk on campus. Sweet. Only stupulation was that they be 100% regionally accredited school courses. In reviewing college catalogs, most will accept between 24-30 hrs of RA correspondence/online work.

Thanks for the advice jugador. I'm writing to a few universities now and have had some very positive responses and suggestions of how I can accomplish what I want.
