I would like to earn a BS in CIS/MIS and I am looking for a California school that would offer this degree. I know an RA would be recommended but because of time, cost, and several other reasons, I would like to earn my degree from a California school or equivalent. Now that that is out of the way, how would PWU compare to CCU or SCUPS? Would Barrington be better or worst?
I don't know. Of the four, I would say Barrington is probably the worst and CCU is probably the best. But are you absolutely sure you don't want to consider an RA degree? I earned my RA B.A. at age 17 based on 18 months of exam-taking, and Lawrie Miller swears this can be done in as little as a month, and for less than $3,000. Look at these schools: Charter Oak State College, Excelsior College, and Thomas Edison State College. Good luck. Peace, ------------------ Tom Head www.tomhead.net
For God's sake listen to Tom Head!!! You are not going to get anymore convenient, affordable options than the ones he has listed. Not to mention that they are accredited and you could actually go on to do graduate work at an accredited institution. North
If you were asking about a masters or doctorate I'd be less inclined to try and stear you away from the schools you listed. I could be convinced with some arm twisting that a doctorate from CCU or (maybe) PWU MIGHT be viable for some situations. (And you'd have to twist both arms and step on my toes to convince me about a masters degree, but I might be convinced. NOW: About an undergrad degree? You could lop off my limbs, stick toothpicks under my fingernails (before lopping off said limbs), and burn me with a branding iron. I would still never agree that with the available options of Regents, TESC and COSC that a non-RA degree makes sense for ANYONE. That said: CCU first, PWU next. (And don't say we didn't tell you so!)
1. Do NOT earn an unaccredited bachelor's degree. It will be just as expensive (or more), and should be just as time-consuming (if properly executed). There are absolutely no advantages to taking a degree from an unaccredited school, not even the ones you mention. 2. CCU is by far the best of the lot. SCUPS seems also to have met the relatively low expectations of California's approval process. Pacific Western University is a near-joke, and it established a Hawaii-based sister operation to award degrees California would no longer allow it to award. Barrington? Is that a school, or just an advertisement in the back of USA Today? 3. Short answer to your question: none of the above. Consider one of the big three: www.excelsior.edu www.tesc.edu www.cosc.edu 4. Read either the Bears' book (Bears' Guide to the Best Computer Degrees by Distance Learning, ISBN: 1580082211) or the one co-written by the Bears and Tom Head (Get Your IT Degree and Get Ahead, ISBN: 0072126051. Both are available at most brick-and-mortar book stores (or can be ordered). They're also available via the internet at: www.amazon.com www.bn.com www.borders.com Good luck! Rich Douglas
Pacific Western's Hawaii campus, as shown on network TV a few years ago, is an empty room adjoining their lawyer's office. Barrington's Alabama campus is a secretarial service.
Besides CCU, the choices you're considering aren't much better than just printing up the diploma yourself. For some of them it would be better to just print up the diploma yourself. At least then you wouldn't be sending money off to a con-artist. In other words even claiming a degree from some of these places would be bogus. Either do the work and earn the degree or don't claim the degree.
