I need to take several Dantes exams and live in the Northern VA area...I've gone through the list on the DSST home page and have not been successful in finding a college that will administer the test. Either they don't administer the test, only administer the test to current students, or they won't answer the phone (Strayer). Has anyone been successful taking a Dantes exam in the Northern VA/DC/MD area recently and if so, where did you take it? Nadine
Potomac College has campuses in NW DC and Herndon. They offer the DSST and CLEP only at the DC facility, I think. http://student.potomac.edu/ (See Testing Programs for online registration)
cpaq, I called Potomac in the past because I live in Herndon so it would be very convienent to test there, but they told me they only adminster the tests to their students...
I live in Herndon too, and I don't know any that are really too close. You may want to check out strayer, GWU, Northern VA Community College (alexandria). Here is the link from the dantes site for the VA locations: http://www.dantes.doded.mil/dantes_web/apps/testcenters/TestCenterSearchResults.asp?City=&State=VA&Zip=&Branch=0&Majcom=0&Location=&Ships=&RecsPerPage=10&Action=Submit
Must be something new or only in Herndon. I took 9 Dantes and a CLEP last year at Potomac College in NW DC. I was not a student.
Look at Marymount 703-284-5770 - (Clep) Ashburn Strayer (Ashburn) CLEP & DSST Potomac College 202-686-0876 great for getting DSST in short notice
Yeah, I currently take my CLEP tests at Marymount - they're great...I wish they adminstered DANTES also. When I spoke to Potomac in December '04, they said it was a new policy that they only allow their students to take tests there. I think I'll call the DC location and see if I get the same answer. As for Strayer, their student services center does not answer the phone! I have called I don't know how many times, at all different times of the day and have yet to get a person on the other end. I did manage to get someone on the phone at their Manassas campus and they said they had a several month wait list to take an exam...I was thinking, maybe if your other campuses actually picked up the phone once in awhile you might not be so booked!
I've noticed, with Strayer, that you have better luck using their email system to communicate with the testing center. Use the main web page link to send a message to your local Strayer. Maybe they respond to this because it's directed through their corporate site, at least that has been my experience. Being 'for profit', the corporate folks, pay more attention to customer service, so you may have better luck.
