Greetings all. Forgive me if this has been asked before but I hope someone on the forum board might be able to provide some info. I currently work at a vocational school in N. California as a Program Director for Massage Therapy/Holistic Health where we offer a 720 hour certificate in that program. I'm also an instructor there. I'm new to teaching ( about a year ) and, boy, is it hard ! - though not impossible. Nevertheless, I enjoy the educational environment and would like to expand into other educational opportunities at some point down the road.
Currently I have all of my gen ed requirements for the state of
California ( about 60 credits ) and want to complete my Bachelors degree and ultimately a Masters, with a focus on curriculum development/instruction and/or educational mgmt/admin. Not that interested in elementary or special ed. right now. I'd like to do it entirely online, if possible. Taking advantage of in-state
( California ) tuition would be great but I'm open to schools in other states as well. Degree programs which help you to learn
how to develop delivery of on-line educational services seem to be "hot" right now, though I wouldn't want something too heavily IT oriented ( programming, etc. )
So, anyone have any recommendations of any particularly note-worthy colleges offering on-line undergrad and/or grad education degree ? Or accelerated programs which give you both your bachelors and masters in the same program ?

    A Million Thanks !!!

    A Sante,

    Gabriel Solaris

Hi Gabriel - I'm not involved in the education field and so my impressions may be incorrect but I've thought that typically people choose a "major" in their Bachelors degree program then take the necessary education courses to qualify for a teaching certificate (including their student teaching internship). So a History/Math/English major becomes a History/Math/English teacher. I'm sure there are other paths but that is the most common. Further, I've thought that the curriculum development and administrative options were more commonly seen as graduate level programs. So, if you're not interested in elementary education or special education then you're thinking teaching at the high school level? What subject?
In any case, the best single link I can provide is for Jonnies Distance Learning page. He lists a whole bunch of DL education programs.

I hope you find something useful there.

    Gabriel,

If you are in California, you most economical solution may be to investigate the distance learning programs at the 23 California State University campuses. Not all of them offer complete degrees through distance learning, but several of them do. If I recall, one of them offers a bachelor of vocational education or bachelor of occupational education degree that may work well with your work experience.

You can access eac of the individual universities at Cal State's main site: http://www.calstate.edu.

    Best of luck,

While somewhat dated, it's worth checking "Bears' Guide to the Best Education Degrees by Distance Learning" out of your local library. While there have been some new programs since then, most of the usual suspects are still offering courses.
