Residency (residence) is my query. Has anyone a reference to historical or research writing on the origins, meaning, or alternatives to residence or residency in college or university degrees? Electronic or paper is fine. Publisher and/or library citations appreciated. ------------------
I strongly suggest you conduct your research at: www.contentville.com This is especially useful for dissertations. Or try www.askeric.org This is useful to research ERIC documents over the past 30 years or so. Or you might try the Library of Congress at www.loc.gov Good luck doing your research.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, Roy Fairfield's "Person-Centered Graduate Education" discusses this topic. Fairfield was really the founding father of the Union Graduate School (now The Union Institute). While this isn't technically research, it is a contemporaneous account of the early days of programs like the Union, Walden, et. al. Fairfield discusses the question of just what does--or should--constitute "residency." Available at www.amazon.com by special order. (I believe it's out of print; I checked with the publisher, Prometheus Books, just now, and they don't list it any more.) Rich Douglas
