Hello All: Can someone educate me on the difference (if any) between a Doctoral in Business Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration Thanks
In a nutshell: DBAs tend to be more applied-orientated. PhDs tend to be more theoretical/research orientated. (does the word "bulls&^t" come to mind?) Does it make a difference in pursuit of a professorship? Many people seem to think a PhD is better, but when you look compare PhDs/DBA program requirements side by side, they look about the same to me. Does it make a difference outside of academia? No.
Sometimes there is no difference between the two in terms of curriculum and dissertation. Sometimes the difference edowave describes exists. Where I disagree is the "no difference" comment. I think there is. Most lay people know (vaguely) what a Ph.D. is; the DBA is sometimes another matter. Not everyone knows what those initials after your name mean. I think it can make more of a difference outside academia than in. But whatever difference exists, many other factors (the school, the curriculum, dissertation requirements, costs, residency, schedule, etc.) will preponderate. You'll be busy with those issues; you won't even get to the Ph.D./DBA question.
