OK this may sound wierd but "The World Almanac" and book of facts is found all over the place. If you avoid the book stores and go to Wal-Mart you can get it really cheap. It can be rented at most libraries and many times older versions are found on sales racks (most of the tests are a few yrs old anyway). There are also large print/hardcover versions for those with bad eyes...

I wish I would have thought to use this book more often earlier in my testing career. You can find info on at least 2/3 of the CLEP and DSST subjects. I'm not saying to use this as your ONLY source but for some tests it may be all you need.

There are chapters in this book in just about anything- almost like little abridged textbooks that are very "to the point". If you studied the material hard it may be just as helpful than buying a whole big textbook and missing the point with too many details.

Here's an example- the almanac has about 40 pages packed with print on Astronomy alone. If you learned all that well- or better yet, get the outline and factsheet from www.getcollegecredit.com and looked up every topic mentioned. I'm sure you will be able to pass DSST astronomy.

Here are some other tests I can use as an example of ones you can find info from this book:

    CLEP Humanities, Social Science...

Theres a good section on American History

For Computing exams, a nice glossary of Computer terms one can memorize...an Economics section, Health, Nutrition, Illegal Drugs (DSST Drug and Alcohol abuse) a huge Geography section... One on World Religions, Environmental Science, American Government, Law,Criminal Justice, Business, World History (think CLEP exams) A lot of basic Math and Science laws are in there too.

The book goes into detail for some topics more than others, but one might be surprised at how much detail it goes into.

I'm sure other people have used this book for many things before- I'm basically saying to look CAREFULLY through each chapter and you may be surprised at how much info relavant to the CLEP,DSST, ECE, TECEP... that your taking is packed into this inexpensive, easy to find book! :)
