Thanks to everyone who provided me the feedback on Frederick Taylor University - actually, I suspected it was dubious, but now I am sure.

One more question of the kind - any knowledge/experience with Amberton University?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Natalya-

I am currently working on an Amberton MBA and have been very pleased so far. The required subject matter is interesting and I am enjoying my studies. Just like any other program -- you get out of it what you put into it and learn the most if you put forth a greater effort.

I have recommended Amberton to several colleagues and all have had the same positive experience.

    I love it!

I have been working on my MBA at Amberton, and all I can say is that i love it. The courses are challenging, but I am learning a ton. The staff is incredibly supportive. Their payment plan makes it easier to work into the budget. they are also extremely affordable.

Go for it, you'll be glad you did! Tienes Buenos Suerte!

I, too, am considering Amberton. So far, I like what I've seen. I've heard plenty of good concerning their MBA program.

  6. Amberton is great!

I am also an Amberton grad student, and am in the final stretch of courses (3 remaining) to complete an MS in Human Relations and Business. I like their program very much, it is primarily research based/writing papers (which just happens to be my forte, so I've got a 4.0 going so far).

I agree that one gets out of it what one puts into it, but that's true for any legitimate degree program.

My advice is to give them a shot - they are not only regionally accredited with SACS, but are a distant offshoot of Abilene Christian University which has a VERY good reputation in the state of Texas. So they have good lineage in addition to a very flexible, affordable, and high quality distance learning degree program.

The other good news is that they are also "brick & mortar" - they do have a degree program in which you actually can attend classes on their campus. In my opinion, that hybrid aspect of any distance learning program always adds an additional layer of credibility for those naysayers who feel that "virtual universities" alone are only a few steps removed from degree mills, whether accredited or not.

I just started the MS Human Relations/Business at Amberton. I wonder if you could maybe PM/email me with what your degree program looks like as well as how many courses you took per semester and the rigor of some of the courses you took. I am working full-time while going through part-time Officer Commissioning with the National Guard and I would like to take more than one course at a time, but I would like to take a combination of courses that will let me do this without killing myself. Thank you for the help,

    Cory

Hey there Cory. I can't PM you because I don't have that set up on this site, and I'm somewhat reluctant to give out an email address given my controversial postings here. ;) If you want to post yours, I'll send you email though in reply.

Long and short of it is I already had 15 credits of business courses at the graduate level from another institution that I was able to apply (12 of the 15) in transfer to Amberton when I started there in January 2004. So I only had 24 to complete some form of a Masters Degree. Initially, I was going for the Professional Development route, which would allow me to take 24 credits of electives in a "build you own" degree format.

Through just dumb luck, I found that coincidentally the courses I was choosing actually were lining up nicely for the MS in Human Relations and Business, a much more marketable degree. I applied 9 credits of my business transfer credits towards the business requirement (9), and used the other 3 towards an elective. I have similarly completed the communications section, and both required graduate study courses. My goal now is to ensure that I have 18 credits total of graduate level business courses in the mix so that I can teach if I want to use that as a back up to my administrative position in higher education.

I've been taking one class a "session", and have finished early (before the deadline) in all the classes I've completed. While the program is difficult, it is fairly easy for me because I can write quickly and am skilled at research. Thus I've been pulling down a 4.0, and gets lots of pats on the backs from my professors on the papers I've submitted.

If you need to know more, post your email and I will respond.

    Thanks, and good luck!!

    Natalya,

You may want to read Amberton's admission requirements: http://www.amberton.edu/Admis.htm

They have US citizenship requirements and previous college work must be from an American, accredited university. If you do not meet these requirements you may want to ask about conditional admissions.

To current and former Amberton MBA or MS students...

I'm obviously not the only one enjoying the program and would like to see if any of the rest of you are considering pursuing a DL doctorate (obviously, most will require a residency -- and that is a non-issue) after your Amberton degree.

If so...which programs are you considering? I'm looking for something in organizational leadership, public administration (I'm in public sector HR) or something with a pretty strong management component. Either a PhD or a DPA will do.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
