Does anyone happen to know something about this online University (ftu.edu or ftu.com)?
    Looks
    - OK accredited, though only by Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education
    - faculty and administration indicated, with degrees from reputable institutions,
    - all contact details (mailing address, phone, email, etc.) look fine as well.
    - Student services are present on the site as well.
    - Program syllabus looks OK as well.

Still the price for Master's program is only 4K US $. No questions asked at admissions, not even TOEFL for international students, only written sample may be asked...

Thanks for your help in advance

I guess with Cal Coast now DETC accredited and with fairly inexpensive programs, I wonder why FTU and not Cal Coast?

NOT accredited, not even by the BPPVE (which does NOT accredit schools). This distinction matters.

Only a few programs approved by the BPPVE. Ran everything else through its Hawaii license (while still operating in California) until, it appears, Hawaii shut them down:

Civil penalties due under the judgment have been paid in full. Although incorporated in Hawaii, FTIU was based in the state of California. FTIU’s Hawaii corporation was dissolved on September 4, 2001.

The utility of a degree from an unaccredited school is severely limited. With the plethora of accredited options, many of which are inexpensive, why would anyone enroll at FTU?

No or little work needs to be done.
No real entry requirements so a person cans BS his way in to more advanced degree.

Or a person with degree from SRU, CCU TCU etc :)

Big factor is the cost - tuition.

But one gets what they pay for.

And the risk is obvious - time bomb in the resume etc.

Print your own diploma and save :)

    Dear Natalya,

The (small) problem with this forum is it's an open forum and some times you may get bad advice along with the good.

Jimmy Clifton and Rich Douglas both are experts in their field and they came here to help you. Listen to what they say. Jimmy also mentioned Cal Coast or California Coast University (or CCU).
This is a California State approved school by the BPPVE for years and has National Accreditation recognized by the DoE and CHEA. You mention you have only a certain amount to spend then listen to Jimmys' advice. It's my advice too. It's a good start. There are other accredited schools to consider too. Maybe others will come here to help you, keep checking in.

    Hi RXI:

As you know, I have been a critic of much that is said on another forum in which you post regularly. When something quite good appears, I am duty bound to note that as well. Please convey to the posters involved on that other forum how much I appreciate their trenchant and informative discussion of (RAI, RIA?) the latest Chhatisgarh wonder "university." The information and links were most helpful and the comments perceptive.

Dubious outfits are trying to make India the next Liberia. Since India has a stable democratic government, an enormous and accomplished academic cadre, and astute accreditation mechanisms, I am certain that the dubious outfits will fail, once the notoriously slow gears of Indian legal and bureaucratic begin inexorably to grind.

Your distinction between the previously reputable and now accredited as well CCU, on the one hand, and the not-so-spiffy FTU/FTIU should be helpful to the thread-starter.

    Regards,
    Janko

It is possible to get a REAL masters degree fro nearly the same amount. See: http://bain4weeks.com/mastermenu.html

All of these are REAL, RECOGNIZED schools and not bogus.

    Re: Re: Frederick Taylor University

You know, that's a damned good question. It blows my mind why anybody would screw around with 99% of these unaccredited "colleges." Maybe, (and that's a BIG maybe) if a school is nearing RA accreditation and has a good reputation (like APU) it makes sense. In the rest of cases, I can only assume the "students" are naive or corrupt in their own right. As I've noted before, I'd love to see what percentage of students in unaccredited schools are foreign. Again, that's by no means an ethnic put down. Foreign students can't be expected to be up on issues like US accreditation to the extent that Americans should.

    That is accurate Jimmy.

Natalya, in the youthful ages of distance learning, was, and in several circumstances these days, a grand initiative to study in California State Approved Universities. They, and others like Walden, are the solitary ones to offer officially authorized distance learning. However, at the present, you can do schoolwork in an US Accredited university and receive an MBA for a modest full tuition of $4889.00 in Ashworth College, and that, is gigantic.
    http://www.ashworthcollege.edu/aboutus/accredited.html

On the other hand, possibly do the MBA in Columbia Southern University, for a first-class cost.
    http://www.columbiasouthern.edu.

The FTU MBA is $ 4,000, but is unaccredited. A CONTRARIO SENSU, Ashworth College is accredited, as a result, for merely $889.00 extra; you can earn an American MBA.

Ashworth College may not be "Wall Street", but it's still a great school nonetheless (IMHO) & you can OFFICIALLY be "John Deere, MBA".

When the time is right (I'm currently attending 3 DL schools) Ashworth College is my pick for the MBA. It won't do much for me career wise (most likely) I simply want it for personal reasons.

    To the main point...

With options like Ashworth (with an incredible price and interest free monthly payment plans for us broke folk) there is absolutely NO REASON to go with a school like FTU.

I must say that about 2 years ago I tried a FTU course for fun. The application process, etc. was nothing spectacular and the course work was 5-6 single sided pages stapled with an open book exam on the last page accompanied by a small textbook. I got my fix and withdrew. Sure, I lost money, but I just HAD to experience it for myself.
