I got an email from them:

CIPM is currently restructuring our website to provide better benefits and services to all of our members.

During the restructuring process, it is necessary to update your profile, so that when the updating process is completed, you will able to view your profile and your membership status online. This service will provide verification to confirm your membership status to employers instead of having a membership and qualification status letter faxed or sent to them.

Please attach your CV or resume in an email addressed to [email protected] and we will send you a userid and password upon receipt allowing you to login and update your profile.

I am attaching the new guidelines for your understanding of the new system.

You may also contact me personally at: [email protected].

I am looking forward to a long and rewarding relationship with you.

    Thank you.

    Warmest Regards

what is interesting is their claim under the Post Graduate Diploma in Business:CIPM Post Graduate Diploma holders will lead to the following prestigious and recognized Masters' degree programs:

    * Enrol in the Masters Programs offered by Trinity College and Unversity,

    * Enrol in the Masters Programs offered by Royce University.

    * Enter to the Masters Programs offered by Ashington University.

    Some interesting points are noted:

    1) "Chartered" is generally used in the name of some UK or UK Commonwealth professional bodies, e.g. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, as they are incorporated by Royal Charter.

"Chartered" professional bodies are prestigious in those countries, but it is clearly not in other countries (as I think there is no restriction to use it in the name of any bodies in other countries). It may be used to pretend to be prestigious. It is not usual for US professional bodies to use "Chartered".

    2) There is no specific academic and experience requirements for different grades of membership, except with fees and subscriptions.

    3) No background information about the professional body.

    4) It seems that all activites are conducted in Singapore, not US.

    Completly bogus.

What is the membership fee :)

    What a scam.

Do not confuse with real UK professional qualifications.

The only "Chartered" management professional body I know is the Chartered Management Institute in the UK. They award the professional title "Chartered Manager".

    Hi Lerner,

Sorry for this late reply to your query. I logged on to DI just now.

Anyway, the BCS (as far as my interaction with the society is concerned) is an excellent professional organization. Although until this time, my means of communication with them is still via email or postal mail, but the staffs are professional and attentive to its members’ needs. A recent development is underway, where a new BCS section will be established in the UAE/Gulf Countries in the Middle East. This is geared towards professional networking among members in the region.

There are grades of membership at BCS. Each grade is dependent on the applicants’ IT qualification (academic) level, and work experience (at professional level) in the ICT.

For convenience, there is a Self Assessment page to help interested applicants assess their eligibility to apply for membership at certain grade.

Standard Grades (Associate or AMBCS, Student, and Affiliate), and Professional Grade (MBCS) application process is straightforward and can be done by recommendation by a Chartered Member (MBCS CITP or FBCS CITP), or via online form.

Chartered Membership (Chartered IT Professional - CITP) is quite rigorous and is open only to Professional members (MBCS and FBCS). This normally requires a printed form outlining the applicant’s work experience (in ICT) and other details, countersigned by two referees (immediate superior and professional colleague). Each referee also has to fill up a confidential verification form expressing his or her opinion about the professional standing of the applicant.

A team of BCS assessors will evaluate all the preliminary documents (mentioned above) and determine the suitability of the applicant for the qualification applied for.

If deemed suitable, the applicant will be invited for a personal interview with, at least, three assessors (who are chartered members of the BCS). The interviewers will briefly review the applicant’s background (based on the application form and referee reports) and substantiate his or her professional standing as claimed in his or her application.

The BCS assessors will write their reports on the result of the interview, which will, then, be the basis for a final assessment by the “BCS Qualifications Board”. The CITP title is awarded or refused by the board based on the final outcome of the screening process.

Please see the BCS website for more details.

    I hope this helps.
