If anyone wants to laugh/cry, they should examine the Web page for the World Association of Universities and Colleges member IOND University (http://www.iond-univ.org/en/index.html). It includes the following info: "Dule Registered By the State of Hawaii. "International Organization for Nontraditional Distance Learning. "IOND University. "We are an international university with a new policy. With this belief, we intend to keep being free from any educational restrictions of any particular state/country. Considering the above, we concluded the laws in Hawaii were the most suitable for our policy." [etc., etc.] Lovely. Of course, despite their supposedly having their "main office" in Hawaii, this is a Japanese scheme.
In the IOND full-color catalog, they describe themselves as: "The International University that grows the grobal sense and gives the way for the restoration of the educational background." When I wrote to them two years ago expressing many concerns, Director General Takahashi replied: "If you are willing to defame IOND University, it is no good. You may not evaluate the university's education by the standard of university's building, money, and property. Please expect our university's future."
