    Hi Guys,

I am currently at India and looking at a good distance Phd program. I havent been able to get a place which offers a Phd program for people in India.

I have done my B.Tech Information Technology a four year program and I have been working for the past 2 years as a software Developer(.Net and Java).

Is there any Univ which can offer me Phd.

    Regards,

    What program?

What do you want the PhD in? Does it have to be a PhD or would another doctorate suffice? Do you have a country preference?

Namaste Tarakeshwar: Please be sure to browse the IT forum, too. Try the search function for specific keyword queries--but it may not work 100%. Welcome to the board. Janko

    Re: What program?

Phd in information security or network programming(I wouldnt mind any course, something related to Computer science will be ok for me)

    A doctorate would also do.

I dont have a country preference, I just need to have the option of studying from India.

    Here's One

    Tarak,

I attended a business and technology conference last year and there were 2 PhD candidates there from a school in Malaysia called "Multimedia University". I know nothing of it but it appears legit and I can attest there are actual students doing the things students do to acquire a PhD. They do have a PhD by research. Here is the web page for the IT department:

    http://fit.mmu.edu.my/postgrad/postgradinfo.htm

When I was researching for my own use, I had looked into getting a doctorate in IT. I did not go with it but I had good contacts with a professor in the IT department at the Technikon South Africa. They have since merged with UNISA and had, at least temporarily, stopped offering the doctor of technology in information technology. I have emailed him to see if that is still the case. If it is back on, I will forward you his address. There have been a couple of people on the boards here post positive things about thier experieince with TSA.

There are a lot of other research degree opportunities in South Africa. Take a look at the universities and technikons on the following web site and start emailing their IT departments to see if any would consider working with you. It is what I did and I am now a studying for my DTech in Business Administration with Durban. http://www.studysa.co.za/

Tarakeshwar - It's not clear to me if you are specifically looking for a university program that is outside of India. If you are willing to go to an Indian university that has DL programs then you could look here:

    Good luck,

I am looking even at Indian Phd's, I didnt know if one was giving a distance education program. Thanks for the link, I am looking into it. I am not able to locate the university given on the website, they have not provided the address, but i am going to try to hunt it down.

    Thanks

    Durban

Durban does not appear to have a DTech in IT. However, here is their link: http://www.dit.ac.za/

Otherwise, look at the Study SA site and start going through the schools to see who does. BTW, do you have a masters degree? It isn't always required that you have a masters to get into a PhD program but I have never seen where you can get a PhD by research without one.

Have you looked at Australian universities?

Specifically Charles Sturt or University of Southern Queensland?

I am sure that most of the Open universities in India including IGNOU offer DL PHD's. They cost about Rs.25k (~$500)

    Technikon South Africa (UNISA?)

I have been in touch with my contact at TSA and he has indicated they have a research PhD in Computer Science which may be done at least mostly by DL. If you are interested I could provide further information.

Are they still offering their own degree programs? I thought they'd been folded into UNISA?

    That is why the (UNISA?)

I think it is UNISA now thus the switch to a PhD instead of the DTech. However, it primarily appears to be the old TSA people offering this program.

Re: That is why the (UNISA?)

I think this is correct. Several of the ZA university mergers just happened (01/01/05). The University of Port Elizabeth and the Port Elizabeth Technikon merged to form the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and Rand Afrikaans University and Technikon Witwatersrand merged to form the University of Johannesburg. The merger that created the University of KwaZulu-Natal had already been completed as had the merger of UNISA, Technikon South African and Vista. It's a bit confusing because some of the new, merged universities are still using the website of one of the old universities (like UPE).
