I came across this site offering a degree from 'a university' in 10 days, based on life experience. Anyone knows which university is that. Just curious about this.

Any more such sites or any word of advice?

It really doesn't matter what the "school" calls itself; those names change with the wind. Nothing about such an operation should suggest a credible postsecondary learning experience resulting in a legitimate degree.

Advice: Listen and learn. Read everything you can about distance education before investing one tuition dollar (or whatever your currency of choice). Look at www.degree.net for information about Bears' Guide. Look also at www.about.com and go to their Distance Learning board, which is a little bit less busy than this one. Good luck.

There is a saying, "If it seems to good to be true, it is." Sure, it is possible to get a piece of paper that says you have a degree. I can probably turn one around faster than 10 days.

However, a real degree, even if it were 100% (or nearly so), based on life experience, could NOT be turned around so fast (and there are people that have gone this route). Assume you knew how to write the various assessment portfolios you would need to qualify for a real, honest to gosh, degree. It would likely take you MUCH longer than 10 days to write them, even working full time.

Let's assume you did not count the time to write the portfolios. You ship them off to the school. Unless there was a battery of qualified readers, with no backlog, it would take longer than 10 days to read your portfolios, grade them, etc.

If you are really serious about getting a real degree, there are plenty of distance learning, or even class room learning, options, with portfolio assessments. Do a little research and you will save yourself some heartache later.

    Weekenders,

First, yes, there are numerous such sites, with each "university" offering world-class, accredited degrees, with little or no work. Some expensive, some not so expensive (one offers the Ph.D. for $199).

Second, These "universities" are not legitimate, recognized or credible universities. They are degree mills.

Third, in terms of words of advice, imagine that the "university" in question is a grenade which someone has just pulled the pin from, and thrown it into your lap. Then respond accordingly. The archives of this forum are filled with stories of people who obtained a questionable degree and used it professionally. Like a time bomb, it eploded, causing humiliation, shame, public exposure, etc.

If you are serious about a degree, by all means, obtain one which is legitimate.
