According to the Grantham College website, they are DETC accredited. Does anybody know if they are also regionally accredited as well, or otherwise. They seem to have several nice Comp Science programs, but I don't know about committing to a DETC only college. Any advice?
1. DETC, not regional. 2. One of the oldest DETC-accredited schools, apparently doing quite a satisfactory job for its students. 3. Many RA options out there, which I'm sure people will be telling you about, and which are found in "Bears' Guide to the Best Computer Degrees by Distance Learning" (see www.degree.net). 4. Good luck in your pursuit of the degree.
At one time, Grantham was the only DETC (then the National Home Study Council)-accredited school offering a bachelor's degree. The degrees seem thorough, and Grantham has been offering them for more than two decades. However.... There is some evidence to show that degrees from DETC-accredited schools are less acceptable to college registrars (of regionally accredited schools) for the purposes of admission. We do not know how marketable such degrees are in the workplace, but many, many DETC-accredited schools now offer degrees. And Grantham has graduated hundreds, if not thousands, of people who, presumably, are using their degrees in their careers. I have a co-worker finishing his bachelor's in computers with Bellvue University. He chose Bellvue over quite a few others, and is pleased with the amount of interaction between students and faculty, and between students themselves. www.bellvue.edu Rich Douglas
From Grantham's web site: "Bears' Guide, America's number one resource for information on distance education lists Grantham as one of the "100 great distance-learning schools fully-accredited, degree-granting and Bear-approved." Visit www.degree.net for more information."
Er... Someone should tell them they didn't make the 2001 edition of College Degrees by Mail and Internet. Peace, ------------------ Tom Head www.tomhead.net
Jonnie Liu points out that Grantham says: " "Bears' Guide, America's number one resource for information on distance education lists Grantham as one of the "100 great distance-learning schools fully-accredited, degree-granting and Bear-approved." Well that's disappointing. Putting the word "great" in quotation marks suggests that I said that. No. The word was in fact "good." I have let them know. John Bear
