I notice now that USDLA will be offering Accreditation for distance learning. http://www.usdla.org/html/resources/accreditation.htm This seem like a move in the right direction.
In order to be taken seriously they will have to be officially recognized by the USDoE and CHEA, won't they?
Re: Re: USDLA Accreditation Not necessarily. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the USDLA will only accredit DL programs/schools already accredited by a recognized agency. I don't know that for sure, of course. The value in their accreditation will be not in degree recognition, but as a "Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval" kind of thing. I requested their standards a few weeks ago. They called two days ago and said the standards were on their way. I'll let you all know what I see when I get them. (I was a little surprised that a DL association would send them in hard copy via snail mail!)
Re: Re: Re: USDLA Accreditation Thanks Dr. Douglas! I appreciate your willingness to share the info when it arrives.
I would think that accreditation is more about standards than recognition from the USDOE or CHEA. If people running the process is credible and the have a high standard to follow then I am sure that will go a far way.
FYI - GATE was donated to the USDLA circa 2002 - see http://www.edugate.org. You will probably find the USDLA standards will be based on GATE standards. Cheers, George
is this the same? I was doing web search for distance education, and I found this school, with this "USDLA" posting. http://www.hartforduniversity-edu.org/aboutus.php Is this the same USDLA as being discussed here? With so many names that are similar, I get confused. Thank you!
Re: is this the same? Yes, I think it is. *However* ANYBODY, and I mean *ANYBODY* can become a member. You just have to pay a fee. Now, being accredited, that is a TOTALLY different matter. Cheers, George
