How does the financial aid process work for DL programs? Like for Nova for example you go one weekend a month for like 3 or 4 months for one class. How do they determine the number of credits per semester, and how do they distribute the financial aid. Does anyone know? I know I am going to need some as my employer won't pay for it, and I can't totally come out of pocket myself. I also need this information because I have to be considered at least half time in order to put my current student loans in deferment while I am in school.

    Thanks

They run on the semester system like everyone else. They have 3 and you can get financial aid for each. If you only take one class (6 hours at the Ph.D., Ed.D. level) then you are 1/2 time and will get 1/2 time fin. aid but it will be enough to cover the class.

Just go through the process of the FASFA and Nova will do the rest and send you the paperwork.

Follow Duff's advice; your school will know what is available and how to get it.

You might also want to consider John and Mariah Bear's book "Finding Money for College." A few years since its last printing, it is still filled with good advice for the adult learner. Check it out from your local public library.

You also might want to consider Matthew Lesko's big money book on government programs. You never know what you might find related to your area of study.

Finally, another reason to check with your school is for specific, non-federal financial aid programs that would apply to your degree program at your school. The school's financial aid office will know about any of them.
