I was looking at Brigham Young University Courses, how user -friendly are they? AND Is it hard to find a proctor to get approved. How long do the courses take, and how soon can they be finished if one works hard on one. Quickness is the most important issue for me...(I'm thinking of either Nutrition or Meteorology)

I'm talking DISTANCE courses, esp, online, (Utah's kinda far from Northeast PA ;) )

I did a distance study graduate 1 hour course with them in Motivation and found the papers were returned promptly with comments and postive feedback. Was given a course outline with readings, assignments, and there was a proctored test at the end. I went to my local public library and the librarian agreed to procter me. They sent her the test, I took it, and received my grade for the course promptly. So getting a procter is no big deal if you have a public library nearby. I'd recommend BYU based on my course.

I took three DL undergraduate secondary-education courses through BYU, and found them to be quite easy.
You have about 6-9 months (if I remember correctly) to complete the courses.

(At least my courses I took) All assignments were completed and forwarded to the professor/instructor via mail (your cost), and then returned in a reasonable manner.

The exams/tests/quizzes were all completed via online, were all multiple choice. Plus, if you did not like you final score on that quiz/test...you can retake it for like $10, the funny thing was about that option was that the same test/quiz was exactly the same that you retake. So, you could memorize the questions and answers (which they gave you at the end of each online quiz/test) which automatically graded it when you submitted it....
    Then retake it.

    Easy courses.

In light of your extreme anger at TESC (not to mention many of us), if you do enrol at BYU I hope you get everything in writing in advance, including a guarantee that no one will ever be difficult with you or give you a grade you don't like. If the academic rigor and bureaucracy of TESC are more than you can handle, how will you will handle BYU, which has more of both?

I hope the moderators can see I did not start this...

OK I did not say ONE negative thing in this thread and you carry your attacks and your sarcasm into this one- and I'm sure your buddies will jump on and ruin this thread too.

YES I don't plan on studying one bit cause I'm lazy and if I dont get an A I WILL SUE the school for discrimination against left-handed Italian-Americans. I will also get the ACLU to help me...LOL

I already discussed this with TESC. If BYU gives me the 3 credits though and TESC accepts them then YES they better stick to their end of the bargain.

I tried ignoring such posts since I only came on DL for factual info that I need. YOU PEOPLE WANT people to lose their cool so THEY look bad to the moderators.

REALLY GUYS don't you have any better way to spend Christmas then to sit online hijacking threads to judge and make sarcastic remarks?
THANK GOD I never touched the general discussion/politics forum. I won't even LOOK.

I'm on here information PERIOD Please stop responding to my posts if you have nothing normal to say! Save your sound, mature advive for your teenage nephews or nieces or something.

My experience with BYu course I took (Pre-calc) was positive. Note that not all public libraries are willing to supply a Proctor, and the local Community College "Doesn't do such things" apparently feeling that DL is somehow cheating the system. I was able to take proctored exams at a Community College in a neighboring state (Clackamas, OR) but the 75 mile drive made me think of other options. Be sure to check all this out before you start. Good luck on your BYU courses.

    My dear LJinPA:

You have not been the brunt of my sarcasm. Not even close. You don't know what my authentic Carpathian sarcasm is. Trust me.

I wish you well in your studies.

But unless you ditch your hysteria, rudeness, blaming everyone else for everything and never yourself, refusal to learn or to consider advice with even a veneer of graciousness, and game-playing about your various disabilities (something for which this partially disabled poster has no respect whatever), you will have just as many problems at a fine school like BYU as you did at a sometimes problematic school like TESC.

It is one thing to transfer or pick up extra credits. It is quite another to wear out your welcome. For your sake, I hope you can do the former without doing the latter.

Whether you do or not, and what you think of me for suggesting that a little maturity might go a long way toward getting what you want, is no concern of mine. You can walk or you can wallow. Walking is more likely to get you where you want to go. I hope you make up your mind to walk.

    Best wishes,

    Janko Preotul

How was I rude except to defend myself- I have never been rude to another person on this board except in self defense. How does a board to discuss practical issues in getting a degree result in an incessant debate on my maturity and character.

If I use caps now it is because I am telling the truth not to be rude I NEVER NEVER NEVER USED MY DISABILITY AS AN EXCUSE FOR ANYTHING. I'd like you to cut and paste when I ever did that. Someone else brought the subject from another thread. I think YOU need to learn to hear people out and stop putting words in people's mouth. I have never even hurled an insult at one person in here.

You don't know me - but I can tell you I did pretty well considering what I have.

NOW PLEASE can this thread go back to my origional subject PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Stay focused

    Hi LJinPA,

"You can't get in a pissing contest, and not expect to get pissed on!"

As you have found out first hand, this board can get argumentative to say the least. You came here to vent and learn, because you want to finish your BS at TESC.

try and turn the other cheek when you get attacked. Otherwise your threads will turn into flame wars as you have seen.

As for TESC, I couldn't agree more. I have never received such a condescending attitude and lack of professionalism. they had me on the hook for over $5,000; but i was determined to meet my objective, even though they disallowed over 60 credits.

One of the things I learned about TESC is YOU MUST BE PLEASANT AND PERSISTENT! i can't tell you how many times they didn't submit my paperwork to the NAvy forcing me to send emails, faxes and phone calls. NOT one time did they return my call. Same goes for the Bursar, registrar and adviser. Unless you can get a refund (which I doubt), you have to find a way to beat the system! Focus on your degree and get persistent. you will earn your degree!

Good luck and stay focused and stay positive, no matter what!

    Merry Christmas.

TRY hunting up some older threads like this one:

There are a few opinions there.

    Proctors

So far it appears that finding a proctor will be the biggest challenge. There are a few public libraries around here, a cle center, community college, and small colleges, but getting the busy staff to take time to proctor 2 exams and go through a certification process seems to be the hard part.

    Re: Proctors

Check out your local Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints - they may be willing to provide a proctor for you at no cost.
