Almost getting the bug

During the past months I have been researching theological DL programs to see if new ones have surfaced and to see what changes, if any, established ones have made.

In doing so I feel the "bug" coming on. I really like Temple Baptist Seminary and The Catholic Distance University.

Temple Baptist has a nice Master of Ministry program that's very reasonable and all DL and CDU has a nice Master of Religious Studies program that appears very in depth and is all DL. CDU's tuition is high, however. TBS is TRACS and CDU is DETC.

If I can take care of some financial concerns in the next few months, I might enroll in one of these programs. I am afraid if I don't move soon, tuition rates for accredited programs will be so high, I may never be able to earn an accredited divinity degree.

As I have stated on here many times, I have no regrets or apologies for having earned theological degrees from Bethany of Dothan and Golden State of Stockton. I just think it would be nice to have an accredited theological degree.

    Hi Mike,

No, Lampeter is too high and UNIZUL is by dissertation. As I have stated when I decided not to finish my enrollment with the University of the Free State, I just don't feel like writing a dissertation.

I am not a research person. When I learn I like taking courses. Theses aren't bad, but dissertations, forget it.

    Merry Christmas!

As usual, I agree with Jimmy on some things and disagree on others. On the one hand, I'd agree with Jimmy when he says that the Lampeter programs are now too expensive. Oxpecker pointed this out to me recently and I regret that I can not afford the Masters program in Philosophy (Life and Death). I disagree with Jimmy (I think) in that I'd be willing to bet (without checking) that the programs at the Catholic Distance University are not any cheaper.
I got into this whole DL thing by looking for a do-able PhD program in Philosophy. As time passes the line between Philosophy and Theology is becoming increasingly blurred in my mind. I'll really have to have a good laugh if I wind up enrolling in a Theology/Religion program.

    Hi Jack,

CDU is not cheap, as I stated at the beginning of this thread. Whether or not CDU is cheaper than Lampeter I do not know. The last time I received info from them they did not offer a payment plan and CDU does.

If you go into a theology/religion program that would be nice. The integration of philosophy and religion is interesting. Kierkegaard did it quite well.

    Hey Jimmy, how are doing?

Maybe it's me, but didn't you say at one time on another thread that you were through with school?!?! ;)

I had a feeling you would change your mind sometime along the line here. It is always good to continue learning, especially theology and or Biblical studies!

Anyway, all the best in what you do and let us know what you choose.

    Hello Rich,

Yes, you're right. Perhaps I should have seen the Bond flick Never Say Never Again. :D

    Applied to Temple

Today I mailed my application to Temple Baptist Seminary (TRACS) for possible enrollement into their Master of Ministry degree available entirely via DL.

I may submit an application to Indiana Wesleyan (HLC/NCA) for their Master of Arts in Ministry degree.

Both programs are reasonable in cost with Temple being about $100 or so cheaper.

Right now I am about 99% sure if I enroll anywhere it will be with Temple.

I am not sure what an accredited theology degree will do for me that the Bethany and Golden State degrees haven't. At my age (53) there is not much left for me to do in life insofar as career options.

I have never had a problem pastoring in a number of denominational churches with the Bethany degrees and the Christian church/churches of Christ have a number of schools within the brotherhood that are unaccredited.

The M.S. (DETC) in Community Health will possibly lead to a secular job in the health field. I have already inquired with several agencies and the DETC accreditation is not a problem.

However, pastoral ministry is the love of my life and I will probably pastor until "The Lord calls me home."

Temple also has a nice D.Min. program but some residency is required. Who knows what I'll end up doing?
