As requested by a small and declining number of members, ;) here is the latest on my pursuit of a University of London LL.M.

The University approved my switch from Admiralty to Jurisprudence. Law Tutors on Line are not conducting tuition for Jurisprudence but do have up-to-date written materials and will provide marking services. I begin tuition for Sentencing and Criminal Process next month and will sit the examinations in August.

I am beginning to feel "at home" with Sentencing. It is heavily policy oriented and that area is fairly well known to me. I am not at all nervous about mastering the statutory and case law detail necessary to pass.

I received the Jurisprudence study guide from the University today. It is the LL.B. guide but came with a cover letter that properly identified the subject and program, so I guess Jurisprudence is Jurisprudence. The LL.M. papers are probably more detailed or something.

I must say that the LL.B. guides, if this one is any indicator, are written at an undergraduate level as compared with the LL.M. guides. Even the tone of the text is, if not elementary, decidedly less demanding of the reader. Much more is spelled out; much less is argued. The LL.B. Jurisprudence guide is four or five TIMES as long as any of my LL.M. subject guides has been.

The Recent Developments 2004 pamphlet raises the fascinating question about whether criminal jurisprudence was radically changed by the events of 9/11. I don't know but you can BET the examiners will pose some such question.
