I recently took the GMAT and scored very low, 470 to be exact. I studied for the test quite a bit, or so I thought. Nova Southeastern was on my list of schools to apply to along with a few other full time programs. Now I am debating on if I want to apply to Nova, and go ahead and start my program or take the GMAT over and apply to Nova plus the other schools. I am going to miss most of the app deadlines of the other schools, but I dont want to wait to apply for fall 06. I could be a year into Nova's program by then. But I am also debating on if I want a Phd or a DBA. I teach part time now, but I eventually want to teach full time, and do some consulting in accounting. I don't necessarily strive to teach at a top research university though, but I do want a good school with a good salary.

Would I be able to get into Nova with a 470 gmat sccore? I read in the literature that they want you to have a 500 gmat with a 3.25 gpa. I have a B.S. in Accounting (3.03/4.0) and an MBA with a finance concentration (5.18/9.0), plus over 8 years work experience in the accounting profession. But that darn GMAT score might hinder me. Any advice?

I don't see why not. I know of some students that got in with similar stats into the DBA at Nova.

I suspect that a 470 will do, given your other credentials. As I understand Nova, they are trying to ensure incoming students are capable of doing the work. The GMAT is not very popular with students, but it does provide a common scale for students coming from a wide range of backgrounds.

A 470 versus the 500 standard isn't far off. I'd apply to NSU and see what they say.
