I just mailed my last M Ed assignment to BYU friday. My comps are done, so, pending a successful transfer of the 3 SH to Soonerville (pre-approved), I should get my U of Oklahoma Degree (at least a letter of completion unitl the degree is conferred).

Some Feedback: The 3 SH from BYU involved at least twice as much work as any U of Oklahoma or Troy State U course. (I have 42 grad hours total, a mix of DL and in resident from visiting profs.) Not really rigor, but definitely more work. A lot of progresive, reflective work (the class was a three seminar sequence on teaching elementary math that was just recently pulled from thier DL catalog) much based on voluntary classroom experiences. Included 24 written assignments and three significant projects. I would recommend BYU for cost and ease of enrollment if you need a class or two to transfer, but not a whole DL degree, too much writing!

Also - No interest in a PHD/EdD now, though Northcentral has been e-mailing me of late. My brain is tired.

Congradulations on your completion of your degree. You have finished what I am getting ready to pursue. If you have a few moments can you please tell me your journey as far as what you did to complete your degree? I am enrolled in Excelsior getting ready to start testing out for a BSL (not sure what option). I am still waiting on my eval from them for the associates degree, then I will go for the Bachelors.

What made you decide to go to U of Oklahoma for your MED? What is your degree in?

I am in the military, but do not plan on staying in past my ETS Oct 2006. I'm hoping to be done with my degree by then. I am looking at registering for troops to teachers next year. If you could possibly tell me what tests you used to complete your bachelors and masters degree I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks

Congratulations and I hope that everything goes smoothly. BYU has an undergraduate degree program where 75% of the degree can be completed via DL, but no fully DL masters programs (yet). My sister is finishing her bachelors there and really enjoys the program.

(What made you decide to go to U of Oklahoma for your MED? What is your degree in?)

U of Oklahoma offers M Ed Degrees on base in Europe. I enrolled in the M Ed (Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum) in 2001. I transferred in 3 SH from Troy State, where I did 12 hrs while in an International Relations Program. Figured I want to teach so I switched. I also transferred in 3 hrs from the U of Idaho. I took most of my courses as visiting profs came over from OK, mostly via weekend format. I did as many "independent directed reading" courses as the school would let me. Much of the work required volunteer time in local DoDDS schools for research and projects. The program was replaced by U of Phoenix in 2003, but I worked out a deal with OU to take my comps and last 6 hrs via DL, with one class from BYU because OU is not really set up for DL (their MSL is, their college of education is not). OU has a nice M of Human Relations program overseas still, but no more ILAC M Ed. Ironically, the military program was the only ILAC Masters degree they ever offered; ILAC is now one of their major PhD options.

(I If you could possibly tell me what tests you used to complete your bachelors and masters degree I would greatly appreciate it.)

The biggest obstacle with tests is finding DSSTs and ECEs that come with upper level credit. I took 2 psych ECEs (foundations of gerontology and abnormal psych) and one DSST, the civil war and reconstruction, to finish. The rest of my upper level work was at UMUC (in class), Indiana U (DL), and U of Missouri (DL). Excelsior can give you a list of upper level exams, and I recommend U of M, and BYU for less expensive DL options.

Masters degree recommendation: Don’t PCS and stay where you are till you finish. If you want to teach in 06’ then wait till you get started and use your masters to get certified.

    Good Luck

Boy, I have time to write now...
