Ok, I am checking out Excelsior website today and I hope what I am seeing is not true or soon to be true next year for 2005.
But I am about to enroll with around 130 credits for a BS Business Degree and I see this from their page.

Q: How much of the degree has to be taken through Excelsior College to meet residency requirements?
A: Residency requirements are defined as distance learning courses taken from Excelsior College. Three types of distance learning courses are available: (1) instructor-led CD-ROM-based courses, (2) Web-based courses, and (3) WebCT courses. Students are required to earn a minimum number of credits through Excelsior College distance learning courses as follows: 9 semester credits for the AAS/AOS degrees, 12 semester credits for the Associate in Science degree in Liberal Arts, and a minimum of 15 semester credits for the bachelor's degree. These credits may all be taken through the convenience of distance learning.

Ok now this would be a money maker for them, 3hrs @ 240 per credit hour that is $720 per class. If I am required to take 5 classes through them for residency requirements that is am extra 3600, I would have to spend with them for a BS degree even through I do not need anymore credits. Hate to jump the gun but If I am seeing this on there page, I think they maybe making some major changes next year in terms of requiring residency requirements for degree seeking students that enroll next year for Spring 2005. It is it strange that they are starting to offer alot of online class that they never offered before too. The list is growing longer each semester. Ck the course listings out at https://www.excelsior.edu/portal/page?_pageid=57,81554&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

    If this is true,
I may need to hurry up and enroll before next year comes in. If it is true this also sucks bigtime.

I have a question is it best to take to Excelsior by phone or by email. Does anybody have any good contacts for them. Cause boy, I sure like to ask someone this question.

    Thanks

I'm not sure that is anything new. What you are looking at is the Military Option 1 requirements. Option 2 does not require any courses from Excelsior. Option 1 is the fully funded (military) tuition option.

If you don't ask for Tuition Assistance through the military you won't be required to take any Excelsior DL courses.

    thanks!

thanks for posting that. I will check into it. It's best to call an advisor during business hours, they are very helpful.

If this is true, I don't think I'll be spending another $450 or so a year to keep myself registered there.

Every year they make it more and more difficult to graduate.

  5. Re: thanks!

Are you currently enrolled and just paying the yearly fee? If that's the case then new requirements won't apply to you - you are locked into the requirements that were in effect when you enrolled, not what's current.

For example, I enrolled prior to the new Information Literacy requirement, so I don't need the 1-credit course.

    Cheers,
    Mark

I myself, have not enrolled yet. I was going to enroll at the beginning of next year in 2005. But if changes do take place for their degrees such as additional stuff added to the degree plans for next year 2005. This would apply to me. I may have to hurry up and enroll by the end of this month. I will try to call over there on Monday too, but I am not sure if I will get any answers because I am not enrolled yet. Also, does anyone know once you fill out your application online. Does the date you fill it out on & submit it, considered your enrollment date to Excelsior or when addmissions approve your application?

I recommend calling Excelsior and asking them directly. In my experience as a student there, they were very helpful.

What about the EC Nursing program?

As far as I know because there is no residency requirement the degree is not qualifying for California State RN examinations.

I could be wrong on this one.
