Hi Dude, So the next DETC Accrediting Meeting will be approaching next month, so what do you guys think about which University will be able to be approved and likely be accredited by DETC? New Applicants As of June 8, 2004, the following institutions have submitted applications for accredited to the DETC Accrediting Commission: Abraham Lincoln University, Los Angeles, CA AHS Institute (Association for Hebraic Studies), Suffern, NY American College of I.T., Saint Joseph, MO American Graduate School of Management, Nashville, TN Anaheim University, Newport Beach, CA Blackstone Career Institute, Emmaus, PA California Coast University, Santa Ana, CA Career Step, Springville, UT Deakin University, Australia Lansbridge University, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada Lambert University, Honolulu, HI McKinley University, Salt Lake City, UT Monash University, Australia Rescue College/Association of Gospel Rescue Missions, N. Kansas City, MO Southern Queensland University, Australia University of New England, Australia YorktownUniversity.com, Dolores, CO
Just an FYI - One cannot assume that a school that submitted their application in June was ready for a visit in the fall and hence voted on in January. Schools can be in the process for a year. Mary A
Seems like you didn't follow the trend for the DETC Meeting. Most of the Universities listed in the initial list for initial accrediting by the DETC were those applied during Jan'04 meeting, except CCU those applied in June'03, so most of the universities listed are up for approval.
I did a search for the American Grad School of Management in Nashville but did not come up with any responses. Can anyone help?
Re: roflmao! Yeah that made me laugh too - I just didn't have the time to respond with all of the nuances, like, for example, the fact that at least ONE of the schools on that list has been on the list for 18 months..... There are a lot of schools on the commission agenda in January, new and those seeking reaccreditation. Should be a busy weekend. Mary
Hi Tom: dis.funk.sh.null is right, you can find out about AGSM at the two websites he mentioned. However, our primary site is www.web2mba.com and we moved from Nashville to Colorado in August. I joined the school in September, after many years at Aspen. We (I or one of the other great people at AGSM) will be happy to answer any questions you have. Best, Mary A
Mary, Congratulations on your new position. I hope it works out well for you. Also thanks for your valuable contributions to this forum. However I do have one question: Why would anyone want to earn an MBA from AGSM when one could earn one from Aspen or Ashworth for 1/4 of the cost, or from an RA school for 1/2 the cost? Thanks, Ian
Hi Ian – Thanks for your kind words. I am having a wonderful time! Regarding why AGSM, that is, admittedly, a tough question for a new institution. We are doing a number of things that we believe will differentiate us i.e. make us a desirable option but it takes time for us to demonstrate some of these things since many of them are not realized except by our graduates upon completion of the program. Certainly we are customer/learner oriented, but we are also faculty-centered. We recognize the importance of the instructor to the program. We have a synchronous component to allow students access to each other and the instructor in real-time, to bring in some of the intangibles we see on campuses where the students have a chance to spend time together. We’ve designed a program to foster better decision-making and leadership skill development which we believe will result in a better return-on-investment for our graduates. We’ve also incorporated business-research skills into our courses so students know how to use the tools that are available to them as well as know how to interpret and present the data in a meaningful manner. Too many people are falling back on what’s been called the “Google” mentality. i.e. they do their primary research using Google without paying enough attention to the source and/or without placing the research in its proper context. The value of many of these things will take a few years to prove out. In the interim, we are going to rely on such things as endorsements from our students, our student satisfaction and learning outcomes results, and we cannot discount the value of our Vanderbilt relationship. In final analysis, only time will tell, but we have done a pretty good job so far, with over 30 graduates. Best, Mary
