Dantes: Art of the Western World Exam

I have been following this discussion board for sometime now, and I would like to say I am very grateful for the incite that has been given here. With all of the help, I have clepped my way to a couple classes from my bachelors degree. I have found the opinions of pretty much everyone that posted here very insightful, so I just wanted to say thanks.

Now for the reason I am posting. I am currently enrolled in COSC, with 3 classes to go before my BA in Business is complete. My dilemma is Dantes: Art of the Western World. Well I want say dilemma, it is more like Mount Everest. I need this exam to satisfy 5 disciplines, and without it more classes will be added on my time for completing my degree. So I wanted to know has anyone taken it, and if so is it the beast that it appears to be, and if not what material would one recommend to study?

I've not taken it (no nasty distribution requirements on this side of the Atlantic . . . yet), but it's always struck me as an incredibly easy exam . . . if, and only if, you like art. If you're not the kind of person who thinks that an afternoon in the Louvre (excellent champagne and cream cakes in the Cafe Richelieu, by the way) or The National Gallery is great fun, it will indeed be an absolute beast.

Start out at this site http://www.wadsworth.com/cgi-wadsworth/course_products_wp.pl?fid=M20b&product_isbn_issn=0534642004&discipline_number=37 it's the online companion site to "Art Through the Ages" which is one of the Dantes recommended texts. If you have a trawl through that, you'll begin to get the basics. Other than that, any book designed for a survey history of art course should help.

I wonder if much of the same material will apply to this exam as you'd use for the visual arts portion (20%) of CLEP Humanities.

If so, instantcert.com has a CLEP Humanities exam question set that has about 130 questions on visual arts. I believe they have a money back policy which means you could try it for a couple of days and cancel if it doesn't do what you want.

Also, look at half.com for the recommended texts listed in the Fact Sheet (http://www.getcollegecredit.com/pdfs/factsheets/Art%20of%20the%20Western%20World.pdf). I see The Visual Arts: A History currently going for $6. History of Art: The Western Tradition has a best price of $14.69. There are others that are even cheaper.

If you don't care about the book's condition (i.e. it's a study guide not a coffee table book) then for about $25 + shipping you'll get 3 recommended texts which, when combined with Google, should more than suffice.
