I would like to pursue a degree in business and accounting. Does anyone have any experience with either of these schools? If you are attending are you satisfied with the curriculum? Are the credits transferable to a four year college? Thank you in advance for any information you can give on either.

    Hello,
I'm not sure what you know or don't know about these schools so I'll give you the main arguing points you will hear on this board about them. First is the accreditation, both are NA or nationally accredited. This differs from most colleges that are B&M because most of those are RA or regioanlly accredited. Regional is seen by most as the gold standard. NA is still an acceptable accreditation, however most RA schools will not readily transfer credits from NA schools. (However there are some !) Ed Direct would be easier for this to happen because they have also been reviewed by ACE which is an organization that evaluates what the NA courses would be equal to at an RA school. Ashworth has not. Accreditaion is such a pain... I personally just enrolled in Ashworth and I am going to see where that takes me. I have been to a state college for a few semesters and I don't see all that much difference from that school, except that Ashworth is specialization heavy and doesn't offer humanities. Also all the learning is on you, straight from the text book. That may be the hurdle you have to cross when enrolling in a 4 year school. What are you trying to get the degree for ? A new job or to move up in your current one ? Or other reasons ?

    Also,
You have done the right thing coming to this board. I have been lurking here for a while learning as much as I can about Distance Ed. It saved me from a not so wonderful school.. !!
Thanks everyone who put their time into Bears Guide !!

    Same thing w/me

Hey Carol! While I have not had personal experience with either college, I am in a similar situation. Only I've been sitting on my butt for several months on it as I already work full-time and am also a full-time law student. But I really, really, really want to get a degree in accounting also. I have had my eye on Edu Direct for about a year now, and one thing that struck me was the ACE review. I have a complete list of all their courses straight from ACE that have passed. If you want it, PM me and I can e-mail it to you. But even if the course won't straight transfer, with their accounting program, there is some kind of test, CLEP, DANTES, etc. that you could take on each course. So in the end, you could get credit for the courses at an RA university later, should you pursue a bachelor's. I also liked their extremely flexible time-limit. From 6 months per semester to 18 months. For me, that is quite necessary.

I have not looked into Ashworth at all, but I know for me, Edu Direct is the way I'm going to go when I have the time to spend on it. Hopefully within a year...

    Etienne

I took two semester of coursework at Education Direct. It was a great program. I found the courses to be about as difficult as those at my local community college. All my units were accepted by University of Phoenix for transfer. There are other schools who will accept their credits too.
