Putting State in the name of a non-accredited school. Now that's pretty brazen, in my opinion.

Anyone else know of non-accredited 'state' schools?

    Regards,

Rich Douglas' research supports the notion that diploma mills can get a good deal of mileage out of putting the word "state" into their names.

Those who would refer to their bogus institutions as "prestigious non-accredited universities" and set up their own "accrediting agencies" to accredit themselves would likley have little trouble with the idea of deceiving people into thinking that they are part of the state university system. (Gad! That's a long sentence!)

In addition their own "accrediting agencies" sound deceptive.

Such as Central States Consortium of Schools and Colleges that sound like one of the 6 Regional – Southern States Association

Or WASC - World Association of Schools and Colleges, to confuse with WASC - Western Association of schools and colleges.

There should be a restriction on usage of "STATE" in the name of the school.

Even among the legitimate schools there is preference.

For example many like the name “ The University of the State of NY” better then just Regent College or Excelsior College.

Well, Florida State seems to just be a football training camp. Although, not a very good one this year.

But they are CA-approved. I take it they're not a flat-out mill, just a crappy school?

Cehi: I agree and you are correct, the school is a California approved university. Crappy, I don't know, but I would have to follow your lead on that assumption. But, GME asked if anyone else knows of un-accredited state schools. This school is not accredited. I never said that it was a diploma mill. Actually, they made a short accreditation stinct with the DETC, but was removed quickly from the DETC list of schools seeking accreditation. Have fun, and thank you.

Well, they're on the OR and MI lists, I think that pretty much implies crappiness, same as getting dropped by DETC.

Cehi: A very good comment that makes a lot of sense. Thank you.
