THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN WASHINGTON IS NOT ACCREDITED BY A RECOGNIZED ACCREDITING AGENCY OR ASSOCIATION RECOGNIZED BY THE UNITED STATES COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION .

I would say this university is not "accredited". Degree Mill title is rather complicated.

    MILL

I grew up in Washington. There is a Central Wash U, Eastern Wash U, and a Western Wash U. Northern Wash U does not exist, likely the mill operator is taking advantage of the missing regional U to fool folks.

There is no such thing as state accreditation in WA. The school is not DETC or regionally approved, and the text is trying to explain away this lack of accreditation.

Stay away unless you like paying for nothing.

And I've been tricked before so I know - Blackstone School of Law 10 years ago. 600 bucks down the drain and Regents/Excelsior said no way to any credit.

    This from our database:

When a Honolulu reporter attempted to learn more about this entity, she was rebuffed at every turn and featured University of Northern Washington in a Pacific Business News (May 26, 2000) article under the headline, “Inside Hawaii’s ‘Diploma Mills’.” On April 9, 2001 the First Circuit Court of the State of Hawaii entered a permanent injunction and final judgment against the University of Northern Washington, Inc. (a Hawaii corporation). The judgment required the university to comply with various Hawaii laws relating to its operations and barred the university from making any representations to the effect that it is registered by, incorporated in or affiliated with the State of Hawaii or representing that it was accredited. The judgment also required the university to pay restitution to one consumer and civil penalties of $30,000 (with an additional $10,000 if payment was not timely made).

UNW failed to abide by the terms of the judgment, making no payments and failing to immediately alter its promotional materials to comply. Eventually it terminated its mail-forwarding arrangements with the Honolulu company whose address it was utilizing. This summer the judgment was registered as a foreign judgment in Whatcom County, Washington where UNW maintains its bank accounts. UNW has altered its website to remove all references to the state of Hawaii.

I can't imagine they've changed since the last entry to this thread. You're smart to do your homework as there are plenty of legitimate avenues for education .

What mystery? It is still unaccredited. I live in Whatcom County (North Washington) and there is no such school.

The "Administrative office" appears to be located in Hawaii http://www.unw.edu/student_windowpic_large.htm

Amazing that places like this exist. 6-9 months is their time frame to get a masters or a Ph.D.
