FOR 3855, Agroforestry in the Southeastern U.S., Section 5413

    Description:

This is a new undergraduate three-credit distance education course to be offered beginning spring 2005. The target audience for the course is second-year students at community colleges having specialization in natural resources, junior and senior students in natural resource majors at UF and other universities, and non-traditional students interested in agroforestry throughout the Southeastern US.

The overall course objective is to enable Bachelor-level natural resources and environmental graduates and professionals to offer appropriate agroforestry solutions to their future clients in response to the rapid land use changes in the Southeast. The course will cover both theory and application of agroforestry practices, stressing landowners' perspectives. North American agroforestry experience orients the course material, but video interviews with Alabama, Georgia, and Florida landowners and researchers and a field exercise provide a Southeastern point of view.

Delivery: The course will be web-based, with on-line chats, discussions, exams, and assignment submission. CDs will be provided containing narrated PowerPoint presentations and video interviews. A field exercise will be required. The CALS course web site is http://cals.ufl.edu/distance/courses/spring/for3855.html.

To Register: Contact Scott Sager, the SFRC student services coordinator, at (352) 846-0847 or email [email protected]. Enrollment will be limited to 20 students.

Instructor: Dr. Michael E. Bannister, P.O. Box 110831, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL 32611-0831, phone 352 846-0146, email [email protected], web site http://www.sfrc.ufl.edu/bannister.htm.
