Sorry to enquire what you probably take for granted. I am in Morocco, which doesn't have the variety of computer gadgetry as some other places.
I am an on-line English teacher. So far I have taught from my PC at the university office. Now I want to start wandering around the world but continue teaching on -line (by voice and text and maybe later by webcam). I know about internet cafes and the imminent wireless modems but is there a practical way of teaching on-line while wandering about with a laptop?

Shouldn't you start by talking to the IT people at your university and inquiring about what their system supports?

They don't know. They like static tutors.

I use an Apple iBook (laptop) with Apple Airport station. It is fantastic!! Check it out at www.apple.com
You can hook to it 10 (I think) laptops at the same time, even some schools use a casing called Mobile Lab. Apple Computer's site has an in-depth explanation about this topic.

    Eli,
An airport is good for wandering around the office, or maybe the building, not around the world (unless they revised IEEE 803.11b while I wasn't looking.....
