No help? Maybe there's some problem with the search feature in the forums...?

    i think it's gone.
it had turned into some ( very, very weird ) personality debate between 2 posters ( whether or not 2 different individuals ).
    The results were as follows:
1 there are MANY outfits by the name of Buxton university; the name could be rooted back to some UK grammar school of ages ago.
2 The BU we were talking about wasn't featured in any official UK universities directory& the like. Hence it's not chartered by the UK. Therefore its "degrees" are useless.
3 no evidence whatsoever could be gathered about BU being still in operation, besides some domain registered by someone in Italy ( in turn pointing to a series of other domains ).
4 shills appeared and between funny lines, they claimed the following:
    a) that BU had ( used to have ) a campus in the Seychelles.
The typical degree mill exotic accreditation was brought into the picture.
    b) that BU used to be in operation a long time aggo.
    c) that degrees sold in its name by a known degree procurer would be a forgery (= the degree printer would abuse BU name without their consent )
    d) BU seems to have some UK "address"; in turn identified as some commercial mail-drop.
    e) BU appears now tied to some "sell-me-dissertation-papers" website with no trace of academic activity whatsoever.
    f) personality debates with members of this forum over their past career activities; they likely ulterior motives as shadow in-charge of "competing schools".

then an endless, weird rant between 2 posters.

    Rich:

I know what you're saying, but I want to point out that, while these degrees are meaningless academically, they are far from useless. That's the whole point of diploma mills: the degrees serve their purchasers quite effectively. Of course, that service is in a deception.

compared to other degree mills, such as the Deley family + even the "sorbon" french outfit, Buxton looks like a rocking chair, while the former look like missiles.
It takes a lot to be fooled by the same "Nigeria+Pakistan+Malaysia+cannibal kingdom " kind of "accreditation"...
But at least that had 1% of something behind the curtain.
It takes a whole lot more to buy the "université francophone/école supérieure robert de sorbon" scam but at least they enjoy the capacity of a pedicure "school"...or so it seems.
But degree mills such as Buxton, well...
One ought to be better off printing himself a diploma.
Of course they aim to deceive people but in Buxton's case it looks like if i went out dressed like the queen of England trying to get paid to create a crown's baron...

You probably saved me a lot of time reading flames to see what all the fuss was about :)

Just a minor clarification. University of Derby College, in Buxton, has nothing to do with the non wonderful BU from the thread, right?

    Thanks

I got the same message too.

I am very disappointed the thread was removed. It managed to be bookmarked in Google ad infinitum, and served as an excellent resource of information in order to warn people. The final days of diatribe should have been removed and the thread left.

    Cheers,

    George

I think there is nothing more to say than added here.
Indeed "BU alumni" were convinced they had been working hard for ages submitting worthy papers to some UK or cannibal island's PO box or compuserve email address.
That would be where leading authorities in the field ( whom they couldn't name, of course ) would assess & mark their papers.
To which i objected it'd make no point anyway.
Otherwise i could submit a thesis to a few recognized scholars in the field and get a doctorate in case of positive consensus.
We had our serving of "idéologie du ressentimemt" ( uncle tom's cabin playback style ) when a selbst genannte deutsche aus (von? greatentess of german ) UAE picked a debate up with Janko concerning eventual discrimination against her ( his...its...) muslim beliefs.

It has previously been reported that sometimes the moderators move a thread temporarily to a moderator access only state so that they can discuss what action should be taken. I would guess that in this case they just forgot to move it back to the public viewing area?

Ham's right. This one has the relevant stuff.

I think we can all live without fake Muslims (I know there's something in the Shari'a indicating that's a Very Bad Thing), the Darlinghurst Dynamo with his peculiar interest in my, um, chief end, and the fellow stuck in a bad movie script.

The mods have enough tsuris w/o us normals (OK, OK, you know what I mean) grousing at 'em about this. Nothing substantive is lost.

    Buxton University

I am sorry to say that I have been involved with Buxton as an adjunct professor. Background - 36 years Hotel Management experience, Consultant, Developer, Real Estate Broker, Management Company Owner, Hotel Owner. Certified Hotel Administrator, Certified Hospitality Educator, Certified Debt Arbitrator and founding member of American Institute of Certified Debt Arbitrators. Received award from AHLA as educator of the Year. ETC. ETC. I presently serve as the Dean of a respected Hospitality and Culinary School since my retirement from the Hotel Business. I conducted on line courses in hospitality management, issued grades and approved thesis content for Buxton. I conducted my self in an ethical manner only to discover that Buxton was, as it appears, not for real. Additionally it appears that Buxton University is out of the Seychelles not the UK.
