As promised, I am posting information about the new LL.M. program.

The total work seems about the same. Every course is now divided into four individual sections. You accumulate passing marks in each section separately. The student progresses thus:

Postgraduate Certifiacte-5 sections from up to four courses.

Postgraduate Diploma-10 sections from up to four courses.

LL.M. degree-16 sections from up to four courses.

Sooo...the LL.M. still requires passing marks in four courses as always but apparently there is no longer a "grouping" requirement nor must the student take two final exams per sitting. Indeed, you can take one crummy section if desired.

Exams will be set twice each year instead of once. Each section is evaluated by a 45 minute unseen written paper.

A first degree in law is not required.

Maximum registration period remains five years. Minimum for the LL.M. is, saints preserve us, now ONE year!

The LL.M. has a flat fee of...6,040 pounds, hideously more expensive than the current program. Pay at once or pay as you go.

Still no "tuition" but they promise textbooks and radically improved study guides. Also they are expanding the "student to student" online chat system.

I don't know about transferring from the old program to the new. I doubt I'd be interested in doing s, not at THESE rates!

Interestingly, they had two three year posts on offer last month for developing the Laws courses. One post was for academic development of the ug course and the other was concerned with learning environments. One suspects that more than just changes to the format of the laws courses are on the way.

    Angela,

Why not put in an application?

    LLM

Thanks for the infomation. Interestingly, I applied late [Oct. 28, 2004] for the LLM, old scheme, and haven't heard back yet. At the time I submitted the application, I sent an email asking if they would consider a late application. A senior communication officer wrote back suggesting I submit a late application [since this year is the final year for the old scheme], so I did. So, here I sit with my fingers crosssed.
    Good luck to all,
