Having found a lot of good advice, INSPIRATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and info from BAin4weeks.com and the other website on getting an Excelsior degree in 6 months.
What is everyone's thoughts on how practical or possible it is for the average person.

Lawrie Miller seemed to think that the average person can do it (that is by standardized exam) in at least 6 months to a year.)

What I'm not sure of is- Did these people work? if so PT or FT? That is at the time of taking the exams.

I've always been an average-Joe student in both High School and Early college (about 2.5 GPA) give or take...

I only need 30 more credits to graduate for example- Lawrie can do this in 1 week which I doubt is practical but I wonder if it would be practical to do it in a few months...? I'm on disability and only work part time...

This question may be answered best by those who took standardized tests before...:)

Yes, it is certainly possible to do it in a very short period of time provided the tests align themselves.

It is well worth the effort and I encourage you to begin now. You'll be done before you know it!

OMG, when I was in high school, I would have killed for a 2.5 GPA, and I did about 130 credits in 7 months. 30 credits in 6 months is almost pacing yourself too much. Consider that in a single morning, you can take two 6 credit CLEP exams, and there's 40% of your goal right there.

I have only taken CLEP Tests once due to the difficulty of finding testing centers in Europe. That was 1.5 months ago. My next two tests are scheduled for in 2 weeks.

I took 3 tests for a total of 15 Credits in 1 day! One day and you'll already be halfway to your goal!!
    I took the following tests:
CLEP: Natural Sciences (Used the Comex book, studied for maybe 8 hours and passed easily), 6 credits
CLEP: Ana & Inter Lit - no study, easy pass, 6 credits
CLEP: Info Sys & Comp App. - no study, easy pass, 3 credits

30 credits in 6 months = very feasible!

    Hi LJinPA

Assuming that you need the upper division Major courses to finish and that you're unfamiliar with CLEP/DANTES style tests, I would say a six month goal is perfect. It sets a time frame that won't stress you excessively, but should hep motivate you. Read as many posts here and at www.bain4weeks.com as you can and be sure to ask ANY questions that we can be helpful with!

    LjinPA,

It ultimately depends on your internal motivation. That is the single most important contribution. The next step is your ability to schedule and adequately study for all the exams. There are a few other threads this that Lawrie and others have done on this very topic. You could do it (theoretically) in 2 weeks (avg 5 cleps a day x 5 business days a week). But be realistic FOR YOUR INDIVIDUAL GOALS.
