Here is my story. I sent my application to University of London LLM end of August. Early October I got a confirmation letter from the school telling me that they have received my application. So now I am still waiting to hear back from them weather I was accepted or not? Right now I am worried that by the time I am accepted and get all my books and study material that I will not be ready for the exams in May 2005.

Anybody else experience anything like this?

I would e-mail the admissions office

I was accepted in the LL.B program and just received notice in the mail on Monday (8 Nov.). Sent in my application on 9 Sept. and it was acknowledged on 11 Oct. My offer letter was dated 29 Oct.

An e-mail to [email protected] with your application/student number should provide an update on your status within a day or two.

I do not intend to take the LLB courses this year, but will enroll early next year and take my first exams in May 2006.

    bo,

you think you will benefit from getting this degree? would you be able to practise here in Ontario right after completing this degree ? Getting a LLB degree requires a lot of work. Just want to know if it will be worth your effort.

    Bo79 is seeking an LLM

I related my experience with the LLB to show the time "lag" in admission can have on impact on one's studies and exam prep with the University of London.

An additional issue about the LLM is the transition to a new programme.

"This LLM programme is being withdrawn and will be replaced by a new Postgraduate Laws programme in 2005. No new registrations for the current programme will be accepted after 30 November 2004. The last examinations for the current programme will be held in 2009."

So it is now or never for applicants to the existing program.

yes I meant LLM. Wanted to know what work can he get in Canada after completing his LLM degree from UoL. He must be doing it for a purpose.

    Etech,

You can not practice law in Ontario with a UK LLB. If you want to practice law in Ontario and you have a UK LLB you will need to spend at least a year at a Canadian law school. To be honest with you I am still debating if a law degree from University of London will be worth it for someone living in Ontario. The chances of being called to the ON Bar are probably very small with a London LLB. However I think that most employers would be impressed with a law degree from a highly respected school like London, so the degree might help you out getting promotions and a raise in other careers. However this is just my theory and at the moment I don't have any hard facts to support it.

Also I am debating what would impress employers more an LLM from University of London or an MBA from a no name school like University of North Alabama or Liberty?

I believe I remember you saying that you are getting an LLB from London? How is that going for you? What do you plan on doing with the degree?

Re: I would e-mail the admissions office

Thanks I will do that. I just can't believe how long the application process takes at this school. Also what really sucks is that by the time I am accepted and receive all my books I will probably not be ready to take any of the exams in May 2005.

I was looking at it earlier but did not go for it. I will be completing degree in Business or Computer Science for now. I think MBA is much better if you plan to go for management related jobs. I will look at that once I complete my BS.
